As a bonus, the weather, for most of the day was gorgeous, and probably the warmest it's been in weeks.
I am legitimately not even the slightest bit cold with my bare legs and shoulders!
This is my new vintage pleated skirt that I thrifted earlier this week. I saw it at the thrift store the weekend before and was immediately drawn to it because these accordion pleated skirts seem to be popping up everywhere these days. I tried it on and I liked it, only it had a lot of 'buts'.
First, a it's touch long; second, it's completely see through; third, the hem had dropped in a few places and was fraying; and finally, tags said Dry Clean Only.
Even thought it was only $3 I told myself to just put it back. You know I couldn't stop thinking about it, and a week later I went back. When it was still there, I had to buy it; since everyone knows that is the thrift store rule. If it is still there in a week, you are obligated to take it home.
To deal with the see-through issue, I put a nude colored slip on over my top. For the small fraying bits, I put on a few drops of Fray Check. For the cleaning, well I just didn't. And for the length, I added some heels ;)
We always play the Egg War game with out colored eggs.
Outfit photo credit goes to my brother today.

I think you made an excellent decision. I picked up a pinkish skirt I feel the same way about but I'm going to try to work it into my wardrobe as soon as it warms up (if it ever does here in Toronto -eeek!).
ReplyDeleteYou look great and as always I'm a fan of yellow (it definitely works on you). -betts

ReplyDeleteOh and I like your rule for thrifting hehehe
I love this top! The puffy sleeves are adorable. I am not sure how I feel about midi length skirts on myself. I feel like it might make me look biggger because I have more muscular calves.
ReplyDeletei think this is my favorite of all your outfits! you look so pretty! that skirt is rad- i'm happy you got it. just get dryel. i use it for 90% of my dry cleanable stuff. it works just fine.
ReplyDeletedo you still have $77 left in your april budget?!? good for you. what are you looking to buy next?
I can't believe you didn't scoop up that beautiful skirt the first go around. It was definitely meant to be that it was still at the store!
ReplyDeleteI like that you paired it with a bright yellow shirt. So Spring!
Lyddie--the skirt is just beautiful! And you are so lucky that it was still there and at such a great price. Have never heard of this fraying product. Is this something you can buy in fabric stores?
ReplyDeleteI'm in-love with this outfit! It looks so effortless and definitely feminine. Love the softness that it exudes. That top is wonderful! And your skirt? I think the length is perfect! Glad you were able to remedy the "buts" because this was a great find. Love it all!!!

That IS the thrift store rule! Totally agree. That's happened to me just once. Lucky you! I love the outfit today and that shot at the end is my favorite. You came up with some great solutions to your skirt dilemmas. Hope you had a great Easter!

I love that skirt. And to see it's the only money you've spent for all of April, and the months almost over! I'm very proud of you. Stock that money up and go a little crazy next month. That's the fun of it.

You look so pretty ! - and so does the pie.
ReplyDeleteI actually think it was a good buy, even though I am always the one telling you that you do not need to get another item!
The color is perfect, the length too and I think that the fact that it needs to be "dry cleaned" can be totally ignored.... some soapy water and a few rinses shoudl work.
