I've had this grey wool shawl for probably 10 years or so, but it's never gotten much wear. If I followed any standards of closet clean out rules, this would have been gone ages ago, however I have little intention of doing so. It was purchased at a local shop that has since gone out of business and is one of the few remaining items I possess that was purchased there. The shop makes me think of my Grandma, because she always liked to take me there and spoil me.

As ponchos are trending right now, I've decided to dig out this shawl and hopefully this won't be the last you'll see of it.

  2. You know it's a good piece when you can't get rid of it! I love that it's so unique and makes a statement. I feel like I gravitate towards that in January when it's so blue out.

  4. I think sometimes we hold onto pieces for reasons we don't totally understand - but in the end, it turns out that there was a reason and I think that you had to keep this poncho all these years because it was meant to go with these boots. You couldn't have known that at the time since the boots were barely a glimmer in your eye, but the pair were definitely a match made in fashion heaven. And although I never would have considered pairing either of them with a bold fuchsia top, I have to admit, it works beautifully.

  5. Love the story behind this piece. Sometimes things hold sentimental value. Glad you kept it because this is a great look!

  8. The hat, shawl, and boots combo is amazing - it's sort of worked out perfectly that you've held onto the shawl and can now pull this off.

I find I hold onto pieces for sentimental reasons too, even if I don't wear them very often It's nice to have the memories when you see something in your wardrobe! :)

  19. This is a lovely shawl! I have a few of those pieces that I normally would have donated long ago but have made exceptions for. Sometimes I like to keep tangible reminders of things around!

  20. I hate thinking that just because something isn't worn, it should be ousted. Pssh. If it makes you happy, like this gorgeous shawl should, you'll wear it again eventually. :-)

  21. Aww, that's a sweet reason to hold onto that poncho--honestly, I think we've all got a couple of things we hold onto even though we never wear them. I can think of a few shoes and dresses that I've still got. That poncho is so lovely, Lyddie! Maybe now you'll remember it's use and wear it more. <3

  22. I love that so many of your clothes tell a story. I think your closet should be filled with things that make you happy, and well, if that just happens to be a lot of things, then so be it! Sometimes things are special and even if they don't get worn all the time, they're still worth keeping, and that gorgeous shawl looks like one of them!
