So I went to look up the fall trends; leopard print, faux fur, military inspired, menswear, capes... Cross them off the list, they are in my closet!
It stands to reason, that I could stop shopping right now, and get through to the spring just fine. And it seems clear that I need to spend more time shopping my closet. Because there are a lot of things in there, and so many of them haven't been worn much.
The monochrome trend is one I have been wanting to try. This navy skirt last seen on mothers day and this navy top last seen in February felt like a good place to start.
My newly aquired silk scarf seemed like the perfect accent, in keeping with the navy theme, but adding a bit of pattern.
At this point, I would like to curse American Eagle, and the asshole who decided to sew a giant tag (including care instructions) directly into the hem of the scarf. When I put the scarf on, no matter how I tied it, the giant tag always ended up front and center. So I went to get the seam ripper to carefully remove it. But it was sewn into the hem. I didn't see an option other than cutting it off. And I was being so, so careful. But I cut the scarf. I am furious with American Eagle, because I really see this as more their fault than mine. It's a small cut. I put a drop of fabric glue on it so it wont get any worse and it's not noticeable. But that pretty much ruined my morning. Okay, rant over.
I was feeling a bit uncertain about the navy tights. Initially I was going to wear black, but I'm glad I stuck to the ideals of the monochrome look. The three slightly different shades next to one another actually work quite well.
And since the only navy shoes I own are eyelet flats, I decided to incorporate black into the look as well.
And finish with some antique looking accents.
With lots of texture and shine keep things from being stagnant.
What other looks can I shop my closet for this month?
The Rundown
Top Gap - Skirt Charlotte Russe - Tights Nine West - Scarf Aerie - Belt TJMaxx - Pumps Areosoles - Bag Taken for Granite - Ring The Cavernous Jewelry Box - Earrings TJMaxx
I really, really like that scarf, no wonder you bought it! I have an American Eagle scarf with a similar problem: the tag is sewn in improperly and it shows no matter how I tie it. It is very frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI love the monocrom look! Maybe your next look should be mixing textures?
oooh ooooh ooooh,I LOVE this look on you!
ReplyDeleteI love this look! It's one of those "duh" moments when you realize how good all this navy looks, but I've never bothered to try it. I may have to borrow this look... :)
ReplyDeleteAnd grr @ the tag. I have an AE scarf that has the tag in the hem, but I've never bothered to remove it. Sadly, I just don't care, LOL!
very cute scarf! i love that green skirt too!
ReplyDeletebisous!

I love monochrome; I just did one yesterday, completely unintentionally. All grey - I just worked with different textures; silk blouse, wool skirts, dotted tights, worn brogues...my black leather jacket was the only interruption. Usually I am not a fan of navy and black worn next to each (I hate the way I look wearing a navy skirt/dress over black tights), but it looks good in this pictorial.

ReplyDeleteand that is sooo annoying about the tag!! UGH!!!

Wowowowow! You look GORGEOUS! Navy is such a fabulous neutral and you totally rocked it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sorry about your scarf. I hate when they sew the tags in like that. Don't they realize that we're trying to WEAR these scarves? Boo.
Very cute.. I love the monochrome look and those tights look really great! you did an awesome job with color combo of blue and silvery greys.. I love this outfit!!
ReplyDeleteAND I know what you mean about having all the essentials. I was out shopping today and made a promise to myself that there would be NO shopping for at least 2 months.. then I thought.. hmmm xmas is coming.. but at the end of the day more clothes is clearly not what makes life amazing. I mean, I buy more, but there are always more to buy... I think blogging doesnt help sometimes either cuz who wants to wear the exact same outfit again? Then what would you post on your blog? YES< its the blogs fault. I like that excuse... hah hah
the tights are awesome
ReplyDeleteBoo to American Eagle. But sounds like you fixed it as best you could.
ReplyDeleteYou are really rockin' this monochromatic look. The scarf and shoes are the perfect touch.
I am looking forward to see your "shopping your closet" looks!
this is a FANTASTIC look on you! Color is great, and the combo is perfect.
ReplyDeleteand I LOVE that scarf. LOVE.
You take such lovely photos, very elegant. I love your navy outfit with the blue/white scarf. I agree with you, I don't know why they have to sew the label into the hem, it's so frustrating to try and remove it, more often than not, you do end up putting a small cut in the fabric.
ReplyDeletedont let your brain trick you, this is a beautiful outfit!!
ReplyDeleteyour outfit is perfect on you. blue is an amazing color for you, you should definently wear it more often. :)

absolutely fab, fab, fab! <3
ReplyDeleteFabulous monochromatic look. Sorry to hear about your scarf drama - I never would have guessed it was from American Eagle - they surprise me sometimes!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with shopping your closet. I was doing good for a while with my closet, but fell off the wagon this month. :)
What in the world is wrong with American Eagle?! That annoys me as much is it probably did you. Sometimes I feel like retailers just lose all common sense when it comes to how a person will actually use an item. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteOn the upside, you look stunning and the scarf is beautiful!
I need to shop my closet. This weekend was especially difficult though. I tried taking some outfit photos and just kept feeling uninspired by everything in there. Uh oh.
i like that monochrome look! and hey, i have all the basics too! good to know =)
ReplyDeleteYou always have such a great outfit...I am loving your scarfso much:) kisses, sweetie

Usually I'm iffy about wearing one colour, but this works for you. Good on ya! x
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! I should try monochrome, but I always feel like I should add more pizazz and contrast
ReplyDeleteBummer about the tag on the scarf..I blame American as well. Love the look here and thanks for tip on Jose Gonzalez, really digging his sound
ReplyDeleteWow! Great look-- Love how you remixed both pieces. You are totally pulling off the monochromatic thing!

Ok, first of all I totally thought that skirt was super expensive and I can't believe it's CR. Second of all, this looks fantastic! And third, you did an great job shopping your own closet. I'm doing the same, I am challenging myself to wear every single top in my closet before buying a new one. I'm more than halfway done. It feels good!
ReplyDeletei hate tags on scarves...they are kinda ridiculous
ReplyDeleteLove the all navy look! LOL about your scarf troubles - I had the same problem with one of my scarves. Eventually I just ripped the tag off in frustration. ;oP
