The other morning while suffering from Can't Get Dressed Syndrome, I decided to play dress-up for a little while. I suppose deep down, I'm still a five year old in love with the idea of digging through trunks of my Mother's old dresses in the attic.
Only this time I dove into the back of my closet -- the real, actual back. I have a second clothing rod behind the main one, that I use for storing costumes and dresses I don't wear but won't get rid of (like my prom gown) and then these little numbers.
So this is my attempt at remixing my semi-formal one hit wonders:
My cousin's wedding, 2003 - Silk brocade halter
See my matching shawl and bag? I made those. Why did I think that was a good idea?
The Rundown
Dress Macys - Cardigan Kohls - Necklace Avon - Shoes Thrifted Payless - Hat Kohls - Bracelet The cavernous jewelry box
Easter, 2006 - Strapless turquoise dress
Found out this doesn't fit my bust anymore, so if not wearing it four years wasn't enough of a reason to get rid of it...
The Rundown
Dress Liz Claiborne - Cardigan H&M - Shoes Madden Girl - Belt Gap - Necklaces Kohls and Etsy - Ring Express
Christmas Eve 2002 and 2005 - Strapless velvet embossed iridescent taffeta
While searching for a photo, I found out I actually wore this twice. Both times on Christmas Eve, and I didn't have a decent shot of me in the dress in either year.
The Rundown
Dress Windsor - Blazer MaxMara - Shoes Simply Vera - Fedora Market in Italy - Necklace Made by Me - Belt Steve Madden
I'll admit, I had a lot of fun styling these dresses, but I still don't think I'll find an occasion to wear them.
You probably get this a lot, but you look a little like Eva Mendes - very pretty! I love the long plait.
ReplyDeleteI made my Halloween costume from clothes I own. Granted, it was pretty easy since I'm dressing up as a vampire masquerading as a schoolgirl. The only thing I had to buy was a tie.
Thanks for following my blog :-)
Oh wow!! You did a great job of making these wearable for right now :D :D :D WOOHOO!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has those holiday specific dresses. And someone who keeps said dresses even though sometimes they don't always fit! Hehehe. That last dress is actually really cute and you did an amazing job of making it look non-Christmassy! Such a grand idea for a post, Miss Lyddie. :D
ReplyDeleteYou did a really good job of remixing those dresses into daytime looks! I have so many things that I've only worn a couple times.. perhaps I need to do this!

I love the way you paired the turquoise dress with a vibrant purple cardigan. It's a shame that dress doesn't fit you anymore.

Wow, nicely done! I have so many dresses like this that I have no idea how to wear for anything other than special occasions. Your remixed outfits look so good - maybe I'll take another look at my dresses!
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job restyling these dresses! I really love the last one.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you remixed those dresses so well! You could totally pull them off on the daily!

ReplyDelete(ooh yes it is like that skirt, I do have it but I haven't worn it yet :/ I tried to sell it but no one wants it haha)
ReplyDeleteLove love love all these stylings. This the last is my favourite though. That is such a wearable outfit! and its super stylish.
ReplyDeleteI should try this but all my smart evening dresses tend to be full length so totally un wearable for the day time. Bet you had lots of fun though

This is brilliant! Amazing job, and I love how you included the original photos from the first wears. My favorite is the remix from the cousin's wedding dress. I love that you accented it with the hat and the rich colors. I've got about 2,000 bridesmaids dresses that, with this inspiratio, maybe I really can wear it again.
ReplyDeleteMight be my favorite post you've ever done!

You truly have a gift for remixing lady! That brocade dress is too pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love the restyling on the first dress especially. And can I just say, I love love your styling. All the beautiful colors together. It's very daring and makes it that much more unique
ReplyDeleteArgh it's so annoying when you buy something (especially if it's expensive) and then only wear it a couple of times! I think you've styled all of these dresses really well though - you could totally wear any of them again! The turquoise dress is super super pretty, I love it! x
ReplyDeleteWow what a beautiful idea. I really like remixes 2 and 3. And those hats are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThis is a brilliant post for all of us with formal dresses hanging forgotten in our closet. I reinvented a black strapless long dress by making it a knee-length dress.
ReplyDeleteYour old photos are so cute! Looks like you have some great family memories. You look great in all the dresses, but if you don't feel comfortable in them maybe it's time to pass them onto someone else?
ReplyDeleteWow Lydia you did an amazing shoot!
ReplyDeleteLove, love all of them.
Did I also mention you look beautiful in every single shot ?
what a great post!
ReplyDeleteyou are so creative in styling things!!! I love that last one with the hat :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you're rocking the brocade dress!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! This post is really inspiring.
