From start to finish, including photo taking, a single outfit can take an hour. (And I cringe as I recall those days when it took longer.)
I always think to myself that I am going to develop a system, a template - the key to quick and easy outfit creation.
Dress + Blazer + Pumps = Office
Jeans + Boots + Leather Jacket = Weekend
ect. ect.
They are good in theory, they work in reality, but I get bored. Easily. And with a million other girls doing the same thing, there is a strong desire to work hard at doing something outside of the norm.
But as a result of too much time spent trying to think of something extraordinary, I have ended up with an outfit inspired by Suze and Kendi - as they both styled their striped top last week and I thought; "Hey, I 've got that top. I'll wear it too."
I also decided that this week I want to keep things bright and/or colorful. Looking at last weeks photos I realized I got sucked into the heavy winter pallet of black, grey, plumb and burgundy. (With the small exception of the turquoise pumps.) So I've brightened things up a bit.

I can never have enough photos of this little girl doing the cutest thing ever, licking her nose.
How long does it take you to get dressed each day?
*I'm perpetually running late in the morning, so I don't have time to take photos, and when I get home at night it's too dark. So I get them all done over the weekend.
love the Old Navy top. Old Navy is slowly becoming a favourite store of mine.
ReplyDeleteYou look great!
Sometimes it takes me two minutes to find something get dressed. Sometimes it takes an hour to find an outfit that feels good. Piture-taking wise, I take about an hour, too-- usually the pictures get done in about 10 minutes, but finding the perfect spot, perfect lighting, perfect contrast of me and my outfit to the background.. that is what takes most of the time. When you finally get that amazing shot, it's all an easy downhill ride from there. :) <3
ReplyDeleteI love love love your dog. SO CUTE. SO FLUFFY. <3 And I love the nude pumps with your pants, and stripes against the blazer, and the pop of orange on your bangle. :) So pretty!
I really like the striped top...I have one similiar and need to start styling that thing for the blog.
ReplyDeleteI normally pick my clothes out the night before so it takes me an hour from start to finish to get ready for work.

I agree wholeheartedly, it's so frustrating some days when I just can't make up my mind!
ReplyDeleteI adore the stripes and your necklace is killer!
How do you get your pup to model so perfectly next to you? Whenever I'm at my parents' house, I try my hardest to get our family dog into the photos, but he's always zooming along. I think if I had a bag of treats he MIGHT stick around long enough to get a picture.
ReplyDeleteI like the striped shirt and the light colored pants. It's a nice summery but still fall-appropriate combination.
It takes me about 20 minutes (sometimes) and other times 5 minutes to pick out an outfit. Photos take about 20-30 minutes, daily. Not including the time to walk/drive to the location (which is usually less than 5 minutes from my home or work)
I seriously LOVE this striped shirt. It's fricken amazing, and everyone looks awesome in it!
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky that I force myself to take 10-15 minutes to take photos before I go to work. I wouldn't be motivated enough to do it on the weekends, which just proves how lazy I am if I don't have to do anything (I hate changing out of sweatpants if I don't NEED to).
I love the shirt with the khaki pants- so cute!!
I love the necklace and shoes with the top!
ReplyDeleteDuring the week, five minutes is the max that I spend on thinking of what to wear and actually getting dressed (add an additional half hour for hair and makeup). Very little (actually, none) effort put forth. On the weekends or evenings that I'm going out, getting ready can take me upwards of an hour which usually includes changing my outfit five times before I'm out the door.
Love it! :D
ReplyDeleteWell I pick out my outfit before bed and then I just throw it on on the morning and take my outfit photo (but the photo is boring since I always do it in the same spot...*sigh*) So it takes me like 15 minutes...haha

I love the blue and white with that little pop of orange! My 30x30 items are pretty heavy in the neutral and darker fall/winter colors, but I did make sure to include a couple of bright pieces just for a change. It usually takes me 5 minutes to get dressed. The whole getting read process is about 30 minutes for me.
ReplyDeletethe bracelet is genius! I am one of the remixers and on at least two of the week-ends, I have taken batches of clothing pics...knowing that I wouldn't be able to keep up on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteThose thrifted pumps are so adorable! And I love how you switched up the color palette.
ReplyDeleteYour doggy is so cute! :)

I love that outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love the top! I'm surprised it is old navy and fits that well. I generally find their clothing to be ill fitting... But it looks great!
ReplyDeleteStripes look great on you!
ReplyDelete<3, natasha
Wow, Old Navy? I bopped in there a month or so ago, it was the first time in years that I've been. (I got a rather cute winter coat and some things off clearance, yay!) I need to reestablish my acquaintance with it, that store has some cute stuff.
ReplyDeleteI can take ages to get dressed - but then, if I've got plans as simple as going shopping I tend to think about it the night before and usually work something up in my head. As far as outfit photos, I've only done that once and it was an all day affair. An hysterical, delightful, ridiculous affair, but an all day one nontheless.
Also, your munchkin dog is the cutest!
sooooooooo cute! You're inspiring me to take time to actually pull a look together. 5 days a week i kind of just grab whatever is office appropriate and head out the door. So boring i know!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I love your necklace, it's stunning. I find that most of the times accessories add the extra oomph to an otherwise blah outfit, and you my dear have mastered this very well.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your style
Hats off to you my friend
XOXO

I adore this outfit! I can't believe you bought a coat with no pockets, hahaha...that would be pure torture!
ReplyDeleteThe orange bracelet is the perfect pop of colour.
ReplyDeleteI think about what I'm going to wear when I'm in bed before I get up and then can usually put something together in about 5 minutes - though it doesn't always manage to look as fabulous as yours :)
Adorable outfit! I love the pictures, so pretty :-)
ReplyDeleteLoving the blue! Hmm dressing time varies greatly!
ReplyDeleteThe navy stripe top is gorgeous..
ReplyDeleteGreat photos in general.

Omg, you plan all your outfits at the weekend?? how fun! I could never do that, I get crabby after posing for too long. QWhen i take pictures for the etsy shop, I can do a maximum of two items at a time!
ReplyDeletehey! i'm your new follower! i saw a lot of great outfits in here! good job!
ReplyDeleteI love the stripey top, it looks perfect with the necklace! Great outfit!

I have that cardigan too and love it! Sometimes I wished it had long sleeves though. Getting dressed for me for everyday doesn't take very long at all. I wear jeans and t-shirts almost every day. On sunday's it takes a bit longer. But I'm planning on rectifying the everyday dressing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty and simple outfit.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you brought in orange through the bracelet.
I dont think we will ever get tired of photographing our pets, I personally love Chloe, she so photogenic !
Is that why all your outfits are so lovely, because you dedicate weekend time to planning them out? I haven't had a chance to check out Kendi and Suze's outfits, but this one is casual, cool, and nautical.
ReplyDeleteDress/blazers/pumps for the office sounds like a winner combination. I get bored with my skirt/top/cardigan office "uniform" as well. I wish I could wear more casual clothes to work because I think they're more versatile.
this is a great look and I love your pumps. I have the same problem, sometimes I just stare at my clothes in the closet for like 10 minutes trying to come up with an outfit and then I spend more time trying them on, getting the right shoes, etc. Its exhausting. Oh and I ended up asking my mother in law for that tripod you sent me the link for....I cant wait to get it!
ReplyDeleteYou're pretty, love your necklace, pants, shoes and sweater, hahah everything!
ReplyDeleteI love the nautical feel of this outfit! The stripes with that cardi and that necklace looks so chic! I love it :)
ReplyDeletewww.thejoyoffashion.blogspot.com
i love how you styled it!
ReplyDeleteLove the bright orange bracelet! Just the right pop of color for a great outfit! The doggy in the photos is priceless!
ReplyDeleteUnless I'm doing an outfit post...it doesn't take very long to throw on my lounge gear. HA! Dig the stripes!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit looks like effortless perfection. During the week, I don't usually take too long to get dressed, but on the weekends, I'm totally ridiculous and take FOREVER.
ReplyDeleteHi Lydia I forgot to tell you that YES that works on all kinds of patent ;:)
ReplyDeletei love the stripes with that necklace, simply classic :)

Wow. That routine is the craziest solution to the lack of sunlight in the winter I have ever seen! I just blogged about my problem here but your solution seems much more proactive!
