Orphaned outfit

If you are wondering about the strange lack of snow in this photo, it's because I took it on January 3rd. For whatever reason, I didn't wear it that week. And then I didn't wear it the week after, and it sat, like the puppy no one wants to buy watching all it's friends get chosen.
Until today.
The Mix
Maybe it was reading Jessica's post on mixing polka dots and patterned skirts the other day that prompted me to finally put this outfit on. Granted, my $3 thrifted skirt isn't nearly as gorgeous at the Vionnet tulip skirt she mentions with the MSRP of $1,745 -- but really, how to even compare? I shouldn't be so cruel to the skirt, after all it is on it's second life and really is quite cute, even though I just noticed it does have a small hole in the side...
The Mix

As for my shoes today, they were purely inside shoes. Today's weather was freezing rain + a foot of snow left from the last storm = slush and misery. I wore my snow boots and stepped in a puddle that swallowed my whole foot and had I been wearing any other shoe I probably would have died.

Some Hipstamatic shots taken today, and you can see a bit of my houndstooth coat in the last one, which added an extra layer of pattern mixing.

  1. I'd never be able to mix the polka dots with a print; it'd end up looking really silly on me. :'D
Totally wowed that you pulled it off so amazingly. :D

  2. Nice work! Pattern mixing at its finest! I'm in love with the lack of snow in these pictures, too...at least the snow will be gone for good pretty soon!

Thanks for your comment on my "10 reasons why I unsubscribed from your fashion/style blog" post! I enjoyed reading your thoughts on all of the issues I brought up, and I totally agree with you! Giant headers also frustrate me a little bit, too. Half the time, I don't even look at them, anyway, so for them to take up an enormous amount of the page is a bit excessive!

  11. Way to fake everyone out :) I could have ice skated on top of the snow outside today, seriously... I like the two patterns you mixed a lot! I think a skinny belt over a skirt is always so elegant too.
