I'm not saying this outfit has really reached Look status, but the straw fedora definitely helps.
I like hats. A hat is a very deliberate accessory. I know people who will insist that they don't look good in hats (I was once one of them) but you can look good in a hat - even you, you hat hater. You just need to find the right one. This straw fedora stolen from the mens section of the Gap, is so the hat for me.

In other very important news, check out this lace Talbots top I found at Coco's On The Green today for $10!
If you are thinking what I am thinking, then you know that this top shares a striking resemblance to the Bebe lace top that was featured in Lucky Mag last month that I was in love with. Only it was $98 (and is now out of stock).
My top also has silk covered shank buttons all the way up the back, which means I can also wear it backwards, cardi style, which might be fun.
There is just one annoying problem with the top - it has side and front seams and a lining that is sewn into them, which makes me worry that it won't look as awesome as I'd like if I cut the lining out. But OBVIOUSLY the lining must come out, layering different colors and things under the top is the best part.
Sadly, the only person in my family who sews at all, is me. So I can't just pass this top off to some crazy talented grandma to work her magic on it. It is just up to me. And I'm of course worried that I'll ruin it somehow. Long lost seamstress extraordinaire auntie, are you out there?
Have you entered to win a Perricone product of your choice yet?
I am sure you will be able to work your seamstress magic on your new top and it would look fabulous! And yes, I do agree that the hat adds a little something something to your look :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till you refashion this top, too! I'm sure you'll do great. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I absolutely agree about the hat. It just livens up an outfit and gives it a completely different vibe.
I love hats and I'm determined to feature one in a post this week. I love the whole looks especially the stripe skirt! You look very pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, Target has straw hats on promotion for $10.

I really like the black and navy color combo! I haven't been that brave yet...
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit! :D I still say I look bad in hats but I guess I just haven't found "the one" :)
ReplyDeleteoooh score on that top!!! *crossing my fingers that you can fix it how you want it* :)

As crazy as it sounds, I think hats make my head look small. XD
ReplyDeleteI really like the hat with this outfit, though! It really is a nice touch. :D
I have a large head...but it had never occurred to me to think of men's hats.
ReplyDeleteThat top is a real find. You CAN do it.

Cute look! I love hats, but for some reason fedoras never work for me. I really like the skirt in this outfit too, it looks so fun!
ReplyDeleteI really love this skirt and wish I had something similar in my closet!
ReplyDeleteI almost bought that men's fedora from GAP and now that I see how cute it looks on you I might just have to go back! I am a huge fan of hats- like you said they can really complete the look. Great skirt and that necklace is adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou can pull off anything babe! : ) Happy Tuesday xx
ReplyDeletei have faith in your sewing abilities. You can work your magic on that top and it will come out brilliantly!
ReplyDeleteThat hat makes the outfit! Are the front seams darts or is it an actual seam, like a princess seam? If it's just darted, you could rip the seam out and that would make it easier to cut the lining out. I would suggest taking it to a tailor to see what they suggest/could do. It's such a beautiful top!
ReplyDeletegreat look
ReplyDeletethe fedora definitley adds a little somethin, somethin
love that necklace you are wearing
can you give me the deets?

Now that I am older I appreciate hats even more. Before I thought only crazy old ladies wore them, maybe I am getting there !
ReplyDeleteI like your new top, I say wear it a few times as it is and then alter it, slowly. I know you can do it !
Love it! And that top is brilliant.
ReplyDeletei really love that skirt!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I really felt like you were talking to me! Okay, I'm convinced--I'll try to find a hat that I can pull off :) You though, have no problems rocking that hat--that is a great hat for you!! And I love the lace top you found!

I love that skirt! Stripes are a favorite pattern especially in the summer. Can't wait to see how you rework the lace top. It definitely looks cool with the layering potential (as styled in Lucky!)
