DIY Cutoffs

My desire to wear cutoffs can be attributed to one thing: blogging. I can be such a follower - sometimes I wonder where my own style sensibilities begin and the high influence from others ends.
I did have a few requirements for the cutoffs however.
First: No Pockets Showing Below Hemlines.
Second: No Spending More Than a Couple Dollars.
Third: Must Be A Classic Brand.

Done, done and done. I found these Levi's in my size at the thrift store for a mere dollar, and did the cutting myself to insure I got the length I wanted. After a few decidedly unsymmetrical snips, I threw these bad boys in the wash with a load of towels and they came out fraying appropriately.

For my styling, the scalloped hem blazer felt like a great contrasting piece (since it is just so darn lady-like) and more of my favorite bracelets, and heels. I have no desire to look like a teenager in my fraying clothing. (Not that I ever wore fraying clothing when I was a teenager, I turned my nose up at the whole ripped denim trend.)

    I'd have to say that your cut-offs turned out perfectly. And no one owns the copyright on cut-offs so I would not worry about that.

    I was a big fan of denim cut-offs the first time around, so I was really happy when I noticed people wearing them again.

    I love them with the blazer and sandals. You make frayed denim look smart.

    They turned out great! I'm glad you didn't have the pockets showing below the hem - I always think it's weird when people wear their cutoffs that way. It looks like they forgot about the pockets when they cut them, and accidentally cut them too short.

    So cute! Those are very sound rules - esp number 1. Exposed pockets look good on exactly no one (and I always wonder what happens if you want to put something in your pocket? Does it just hang there for everyone to see?)

    I know what you mean about jumping on trends because of what other bloggers are doing. I think the cutoff look great on everyone - yours are perfect - but I actually wore them back in the 90s and I think if you wore them once you shouldn't wear them again ;)
