What thrift dreams are made of

I go thrifting quite a bit. Frequenting my local shops is almost like an addiction. Since there are two small ones very close to me I pass by them often, and I often struggle to tell myself not to pull over and pop in, "Just for a second, in case something new came in."

In all the times I've thrifted, I haven't found too many gems. I always hear the stories from other bloggers, that practically mint condition vintage designer item for a dollar, barely worn Frye boots in their size for $3... yes, I hear the stories and they are what compel me to keep going back.

This bag and this trench however, are my diamonds. The London Fog trench was only $3 and was in my size, so that was a huge score! (Trenches aren't too hard to come by, but are always in comically huge sizes.) The bag that you have seen plenty of these past few days was $10 (For many of you Good Will thrifters, that might seem expensive, but for Coach, I didn't think twice.) I even had a woman compliment it, and when I told her I'd gotten it for $10, she said she'd give me double for it! (Sorry, but not a chance!)

So I keep on hunting, and hoping that my next great thrift find is just around the corner.

  7. I never really find those thrifting gems either - I mean, I get cool things at thrift stores, but nothing like that awesome trench coat you found!

  9. Great finds! I recently discoverered a small thrift shop that is walking distance from my place. It's so tempting to go in every day. There may be treasure.

  10. the trench fits you wonderful, I've never found one that looks modern enough and fits well in that color, I have found many treasures but lately it hasn't been that easy, thrifteing has turned into kind of a trend for those rich people who can afford high prices but still go to thrift stores, like Sea of Shoes girly who is filthy rich but thrifts in one of the thrift stores I go to. Anyways I hope this hype ends soon because it has been harder and harder to find nice things, that and the economic depression are taking it's tolls on thrift stores.

  13. That trench is a great find. I agree that they are a dime a dozen (well, before Goodwill raised their prices) but the fit is always wonky.

I'm glad you found awesome treasures - I've found a few but nothing like the tales you mention. I still love thrifting though. ;-)

  20. That's the funny thing about thrifting. I have a shop that I visit every week, almost like a routine, just in case they have a new gem. I've found a few really amazing things there, but 19 times out of 20, there is absolutely nothing that I would wear or that would even come close to fitting me. But aren't those rare gems worth it? Your trench is absolutely perfect, good for you for hanging onto it in spite of the offer you got :) I absolutely adore your earrings, too; I'm a sucker for anything sparkly and they really stand out when your hair is pulled back!

  21. I always read the fabulous stories of bloggers finding gems at Thrift stores, but I never do. I'm super jealous of your trench coat and bag. Great score and beautiful outfit!! :)

ps. What color nail polish are you wearing? I love it!!

  22. This trench is classic and fantastic! Great find! I love thrifting. You never know what's hidden in there!

  23. That coat is a seriously amazing score! I can only ever seem to find ones in ridiculously huge sizes (as you note) so I am totally jealous. The last time I went I did pretty good though - a BCBG skirt and a super cute Express dress. But I would trade it all for that trench...

  24. Looking beautiful! We are kind of twins, apparently, since I just nabbed a London Fog trench a few weeks ago at a thrift store in my size! It was twice as much as yours, though...and it's mint green...but still. Twin-like, I say.

$10 for a coach bag---I don't blame you for not thinking twice. It looks like it's in great condition, too!

  25. I totally can't believe it's trench weather already, although I do really like yours and the little airplane at the pocket. It didn't even break 60 today and I still refuse to wear tights, so I ended up with over the knee boots. Not sure if that's better or worse :P

  33. I love the trench. Definitely a thrifting diamond. This whole outfit is very european/cafe to me, but maybe I'm being influenced by the lovely shots at the end of the post!
(And to answer your question on Devil's Tower -- the rock itself is pretty grey in color, but we arrived just as the sun cast a lovely yellowy glow on the stone!)

  37. That coat is fabulous!

I'm often let down by thrifting but I keep going back for those few treasures I do find.

It can be addictive though. I have a few stores I just pop into on my way home from work every week.
