Sometimes I struggle with layering. I feel like I get lost in the numerous garments, or have to constantly be readjusting because I'm trying to emulate some J.Crew model and for the life of me I do not know how they get them into a button down, two cardigans, and a blazer with a belt around it, all over a strapless dress, and look that good. I've attempted it. It's horrendous.
This is about as much as I can handle, and I'm quite fond of how the fur vest looks layered over a structured piece like the blazer. Positioning the lapel over the fur seemed like a great way to emphasize the blazer and retain the polish a blazer brings to a look.

This outfit ended up really 70's. Do I even like the 70's?
Yes you like the 70's! Ha ha! I completely get you about layering. Sometimes it's just a hassle. I think you did good mixing the textures and colors. Love the bit of leo print you tossed in!
ReplyDeleteSo right on target with the J.Crew styling. Sometimes it's a little crazy. I definitely see the vintage influence in this outfit and I like the layering you did a lot. And the colors!
ReplyDeleteNot sure you if you do like the 70s, but you SHOULD, because they look fabulous on you :) Perfect hat!

So What If I Like Pretty Things
Yep, your layering is great! I too just don't understand all the layering you see on models (or on bloggers like Blair from Atlantic-Pacific) - if I wore five layers at a time, I'd look like a snowman, and yet somehow these models look super-glamorous. Although you look very nice - three seems like just the right amount of layers!
ReplyDeleteThe 70's look looks good on you! Love the fur layered over the blazer.

For someone who doesn't feel like they can pull of layering, you coulda fooled me! I love this look on you! The fur vest really pulls it all together!
ReplyDeletei totally agree about layering, sometimes its tricky but it looks so good when you get it right!

I think you've mastered the layering here for sure! And you look like an amazing Ali McGraw nod to the 70s so it's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this look! Those jeans are awesome, and I love the red under all the layers - so cute :)

The Other Side of Gray
Love this!! And I agree....I don't get how they get the models in those looks looking so perfect XD

Your layering looks great! I haven't been successful wearing my faux fur vest over a jacket/blazer, yet. My vest is pretty oversized, so I really reel like I loose my shape. I should try it over my close-fitting denim jacket.
ReplyDeleteI think this looks great! I love the touch of fur and leopard, they're perfect in a boho layered look.

I a agree with the J Crew styling, I love it but it is sometimes hard to recreate. You should love the 70's because they obviously love you. You made layering look easy and chic. Pass me the leopard print, please!

The hat and the pants have 70s feels to them. They really suit you!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a boss job at layering. I know what you mean, though-- it's as if the layers are consuming you piece by piece until you just can't recognize yourself anymore.. /drama/
ReplyDeleteKidding, kidding.
I like the pop of red under all your neutrals. I think that's great how you did a bunch of neutrals even with a little neutral pattern and then BAM red. It looks fabulous.
You look gorgeous, very 1970's! The flare jeans are stunning as is the pop of red in your sweater. And the hat is just too cute <3

I love the 70s, so to me this is awesome!! I like that you balanced out the layers on top with some wideleg jeans... I feel like when I layer I always look top heavy. I'll have to try this out... pending weather that would actually need layering :(
ReplyDeletexx Melina
I'm feeling the 70's vibe! Leopard and red is always nice!
ReplyDeleteAll your the layers add up to one amazing outfit! The vest over the blazers is genius!!
ReplyDeleteYEP, its like an UPDATED 70´s look.
ReplyDeleteLike you I struggle with layering (whenever I need it)
I feel that one thing over the other will only make me look heavier than normal plus, its not comfortable.
Cozy. And very 70's. Loving this whole look.

Love this! You know I'm looking for different ways to remix my fur vest and you just gave some serious inspiration lady!

i know right, all those layers, i think Photoshop is the answer to all of their layering woes. lol
ReplyDeletei think you pulled off this layered look just fine
love the 70's nod
brett
Great layered look. I don't think you look too 70's at all. I think you look classic and beautiful.

Love all the layers, such a fun look!
ReplyDeleteyour butt looks great in those jeans.
ReplyDeleteI saw a blazer yesterday @ Marshalls and almost bought it...
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one who had a problem with layering. I thought it could be because I am 5'3 but know you are even less than that. I was amazed when I heard of your height because your photos look like you are so much taller. I also like the way you are so eclectic in your styling. One day the 70's the next a ready for the boardroom look. It makes it fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteThe 70's looks great on you! Love that hat! The whole outfit is really put together and flows so well. I've been looking for a fur vest but haven't found one that I like and feel looks good on me.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Look! I am pretty sure I own that vest too :D

You must like the 70s since you put it all together like that! I love 70s shapes and that hat is lovely on you. You're great in hats.
ReplyDeleteOn the second photo you look alike Eva Mendez !I like your amazing scalopped hat and touch of red!
ReplyDeletehttp://acupofmary.blogspot.com/
Lovely Hat :))!
ReplyDeleteWell, I like this interpretation of the 70s for sure! That TJ Maxx hat slays me every time you wear it. Maybe it's the scallop edge and how that's such a "lyddie" touch (in my mind!)
ReplyDeleteI love how you layered the fur vest and the blazer lid dye and you got the right elements to follow, red touches and leopard print oh and the great hat. I think this look has a bit of a boho feel.
ReplyDeleteOn the J.Crew Layering I totally agree, I often wonder how they can layer so many clothes and still look great, not for me either, I can only layer up to 3 garments and that's really pushing it.
You did a great job layering. I love that hat! The scalloped brim is gorgeous. Great vest and jeans girl.

love the layering in this look!

I'm loving 70s and your fur vest. They look fab! :) <3<3
ReplyDeleteYup, the pants made it look like the 70's, do you even born in the 70's? :D Anyways, great blog! Take a look at mine and if you want we can follow each others.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous layers!! And I just love your hat!

Haha, that's exactly what they do and I have no idea how they do it either? How do they get the sleeves to look so smooth? Mine always look bumpy with too many layers. Oh well. Anyway, I think this layering is lovely--this is the perfect amount!
ReplyDeletePerfectly layered; one of my favorite's that you've done. I find winter wear difficult to style..good job!
