Self-conscious about my spots

I pretty much have a leopard print addiction. I bought my very first piece of leopard apparel when I started this blog and I fell in love. It was a pencil skirt. Then a hat, a coat, a top, a dress, a clutch, sandals, belt... you know, it just sort of snowballed. Leopard looks good with everything.

When I went thrifting last month with Meg and Christine we spotted these pants. Meg tried them on, but they were a little big on her, so I tried them on. They zipped, so I bought them. For $9, how could I not?

However, for someone so enamored with leopard everything, I actually feel a little self-conscious wearing these pants. They might just be a little too over the top. Even though so many of my favorite bloggers have worn leopard pants and I adore them, these really felt challenging to wear.

After extensive research, (aka google image search + pinterest) I've realized that no one is wearing flared leopard print pants, they are all skinnies. So perhaps I should just skinnify them? What do you think?

  1. Ok lady, you need to know that you look gorgeous can wear whatever the heck you want, regardless of what Google Images says. You always have the best attitude and that is what is way more important!

  2. I don't think the pants are over the top at all - you wear them well (the velvet blazer was a perfect choice)!

  4. I think the pants are great, especially with the blazer. If you feel self conscious though, you could "skinnify" them. I love them though just as they are.

  6. Those pants are fabulous, especially with that velvet blazer! I felt the same way about a pair of polka dot pants that I ended up returning. I love a polka dot, but a printed pant felt like too much!

  7. I love this! And I say if you'll feel more comfortable with them as skinnies do it! :D But I think they look great this way too

  8. I think making them skinny would do the trick and would love to see the finished look.

  9. I don't know Lyddie, they look great on you this way. But if you think you'd wear them more as skinnies, go for it--I'm sure they'd look great that way too. Can't wait to see what you decide!

  10. Those pants look great on you; you've styled them very professionally. However, I understand being uncomfortable with flares. I turned a pair of vintage floral boot cut pants into skinnies after seeing my blog pics :P

  11. I'm not gonna lie, I totally associate all things leopard and nautical with you--if I'm shopping and see something leopard, I think, "Oh! This will make me channel my inner Lyddie." :)

But these pants are GREAT and you should not feel self-conscious about them! I mean, printed pants are totally in and that's all they are! And so fabulous and such a classy print. You kept everything else simple so it works. Don't even wwwooorrry :D

  12. I actually like them as is. I think you paired it perfectly with the work appropriate blouse and blazer. you look amazing here Lydia! Strut those spots!

  13. Awesome! I think the fact that they're flared pants makes them very "rock'n'roll," but I suppose they'd look more modern if they were skinny. Either way, I love em!

  14. I love them! I've seen wide-legged leopard trousers but have not had a chance to find any that fit me. This flared style looks gorgeous on you. xx

  16. I say skinny them, they would definitely look great as skinny jeans. I only have a leopard print belt, the other day I was shopping I found a leopard print shirt but I couldn't get myself to buy it, my style is much more on the romantic side so I would definitely feel self-conscious wearing it...but I want it oh so bad! Maybe I'll try it soon. =)

  20. I think these "could" look over-the-top but I also envision them with a slinky black top and some killer pumps for a really great going out outfit. However, if you got them tailored, you could turn them into tapered cropped trousers that would be elegant or into skinnies that would look awesome with a pair of black knee high boots. There's a lot of potential with these pants - good buy!

  21. I havent seen any flared leopard pants before but that just means you are ahead of the curve :)

  22. No! You should definitely think about keeping them as flares! This whole look is so 1985 in the best possible way. Reminds me of something someone would have worn in Miami Vice. Also in the best possible way.

Actually, now I'm seeing 1970s. Can't make up my mind!

  23. I think your styling is great (and leopard definitely loves you back), but I think I would taper them if I were you. Otherwise it's not just leopard, it's A LOT of leopard.

  24. These pants are so much fun! You should wear them how you want to wear them! They look fun flared...but if you want to make them skinny because you want to, then go for it!

  30. The pants are so fun! I am on the fence, but perhaps making them skinny would make for a cleaner silhouette. But they do look comfy!

  31. I would skinny them. Skinnies are more your style.

  32. I think these look great and especially how you've styled them here, with that black blazer. I would personally shorten the hem just because I am more of a short hem kind of girl but unless you wore them with flats, I don't see why you should...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh you know another way? Wearing the boots on top of them. That could really look good too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like the pants. They look great as is, but would like nice as skinnies if you would wear them more often that way.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Go skinny! They'll look more modern and even cooler.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think making them a skinny pant would work really well. I have no idea how ones goes about doing that, but if you figure it out, share with the rest of us because I have a pair of cords I need to make into skinny jeans...

  37. If you skinny-fy them then you'll look like everyone else. I love that you're daring

  38. Hi Liddy,
I think the pants are great the way they are. You did a great job with them.

I would love to pair them with an oxblood solid colored shirt and some brown boots. How cute!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok, this look is great. You *could* tailor them to skinny...or you could rock the flare & break the mold!
When all's said and done, I side with the others who have advised you to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable!

  40. I love them the way they are - makes them a little different than skinnies again. You look fab in them by the way! X

  41. Wow, I was going to say the I really love these pants just because they are flared, rather than the more common skinny fit. They really stand out and while they do have a great seventies vibe too them, they're not so retro looking that they end up looking like a costume. (Plus I love how you styled them, the while blouse and the blazer let the pants have the spotlight but tone them down a bit.)

  46. I agree with skinnyfying them. I had a similar dilemma that I blogged about myself. The key is also to pair with neutrals which you did. Love your blog

before you skinnify them... try wearing them with high heels.
I have a pair of polka dot trousers that i have not worn because i feel that the put me on the spot ;)

  48. I think being paired with the velvet blazer it makes them look good. I am interested to see how they would look skinny though.
