The floppy hat

May is Melanoma Awareness month, and to help raise awareness, Dorfman Pacific sent over this paper straw hat, which carries the UPF sun protection factor of 50.

Did you know 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of their lifetime? Scary.

Hats are more than just a great fashion statement, they provide excellent protection from the sun. As warmer days approach and more and more time is spent out of doors don't forget to protect your skin - especially your face!

You know I'm a hat person, but I wasn't always. Trust me, you can be one too.

    Super cute with the hat, I love to complete beachwear with oversized hats cause they add so much glamour! There's some skin cancer history in my family, so being safe from the sun is always a priority for me, who said fashion and health weren't related?

    The floppy hat is one of my favorite summer accessories! The statistics of skin cancer or so scary, but at least (for the most part) it is preventable with the right precautions.

    I love this outfit! Great for a spring day at the beach. I'm not one for hats, but I will wear one to the beach. I'm pretty fair, and my scalp burns easily.

    This Summer I plan to take better care of my skin, I didn't do so well last Summer because I spent countless hours at the pool and even though I wore sunscreen I got very dark. I might have to try a hat this Summer, you make it look so effortless and cool.

    What a cute hat! For years I thought I wasn't a hat person... I remember it felt like a victory when I finally found a hat that worked for me, and then all of a sudden every hat worked for me and I wound up with a huge collection of them :) The one style I've never been able to get right is the floppy hat, but you have me thinking about giving it another go, it's such a perfect summer look, especially with a maxi. Speaking of maxis, I adore the colour of yours - so vibrant!

    I want to be a hat person! I've tried a few, love them, but I get too self conscious. Avoiding skin cancer IS a pretty good reason to get over what others think. Haha. Love the hat on you, m'dear!
