April Showers

It seems befitting to start off April with some outfit photos taken in the rain. While rainy day photos have never been my favorite, not taking outfit photos for an entire week was never going to work. Having Meg and Christine there to take them did make it a bit more fun, and seeking shelter under the buildings' covered walk way kept us (mostly) dry.

We made a spur of the moment lunch date at "O" Bar in Trumbull, followed by a little trip to TJMaxx. I loved looking at all the new spring items, silk floral blouses in soft pastels, breezy shift dresses, whisper thin knits; something about it felt so cathartic, a big part of me wants to go and purge half my closet. Transitioning from winter into spring makes me feel like I want to be someone new.

In a mix of old and new, I pulled out my treasured London Fog Trench, thrifted for less than the cost of a cup of coffee, a thrifted sweater, a lovely new ceramic and rose gold link bracelet that Jeweshop sent over, a new-to-me J.Crew striped skirt and vintage mint handbag. The skirt was an ebay purchase, the bag is from the Village Vogue Consignment shop.

I've been spending a lot more time in Milford and getting more familiar with the secondhand shops there. Village Vogue is all women's apparel with a nice mix of higher end designers and vintage pieces; setup inside a colonial house, wandering through different rooms makes for an enjoyable shopping environment.

  1. I'm glad you found a spot to take your pics. I tried to take pics in the rain and they were a total fail. I looked like Mary Poppins. LOL You on the other hand look fab and chic, love that skirt.

  2. I'm glad there was a short break in the rain here on Sunday and I rushed to do my photos! That trench coat is so chic and I can't believe how cheap you were able to thrift it for!

  7. You know, I've been struggling with the same desire to purge half my closet recently - it never occured to me that it might be the change of seasons but that's probably it! When spring comes, I want a whole new wardrobe that's fresh and white and well, white (so I totally understand your wish for an all white closet.) And I love the white elements in this look, especially with the gold and mint accents. How lovely! This outfit definitely deserved to be photographed, even if it meant braving the rain.

  18. So glad it wasn't snow this weekend here in CT, but that doesn't make taking pictures in the rain any more fun! :|

  21. I hate taking photos in the rain. Mostly because Andrew can't figure out how to work them. Anyway, the rain definitely isn't keeping you from looking fabulous!

  24. These are beautiful rainy photos! Good thing you found a dry spot. A soaked Lyddie is probably not a very happy Lyddie. ;)

That skirt is absolutely amazing. It reminds me of fancy Christmas wrapping paper and that is totally a compliment. Because it would be a GIFT to see you~

  25. Lydia I love this soft and elegant look. Your findings are wonderful gems. You always inspire me to go and visit my charity shops, but I'm not so lucky with findings like you are. Maybe one day. Spring have brought craving for dresses and skirts which are missing my wardrobe, yet the weather is still too cold to wear them with bare legs, I'm dreaming of that day.

  26. That sounds like the perfect rainy day to me. Some shopping, some browsing in stores, some lunch. And you look gorgeous, proper outfit for a lady to go out to lunch. Because of your beautiful skin color I love you in Neutrals. Though you have had many pretty outfits this year, this I think is my most favorite thus far. I love every single piece you are wearing, especially the shoes, skirt, purse, trench-coat & white bracelet.
