As for what I bought; my favorite secondhand shop, Coco's on the Green was having it's annual half off sale and there were a couple items I could not resist. The first is the pair of sandals I'm wearing in this post, they are by Salvatore Ferragamo and were reduced to $9! The other item is a white lace skirt, reduced to $15 that I'm sure you will be seeing soon.
My third purchase was a swimsuit. Last week I was in the middle of 'nowhere' MA, with 90 minutes to kill. What was I to do other than type 'TJMaxx' into google maps? To my delight I found my way to a huge, brand spanking new TJMaxx and then proceeded to try on nearly every suit in the store. I eventually ended up with a bright orange Michael Kors one piece for $38 (and a Julep nail polish for $5).
I also bought, and subsequently returned these star sandals from Delia's and the scalloped hem PJs from J.Crew (less shipping costs).
Additionally I placed an order for a couple of the Peter Som for Kohl's pieces, the white eyelet lace shorts and palazzo pants. They haven't arrived yet, so I'm not sure if I am keeping them or not.
I've decided to try the ban again this month and hopefully do better, though I do have a few gift cards I am welcome to spend!

Pretty dress! I need to check out the line from kohls, so cute!
ReplyDeleteYou always look so classy! I love that feather print dress! I don't think I could go a full month without shopping either so I don't even try. I'd just be setting myself up for failure! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou always have such lovely dresses! And if I found a pair of Ferragamos for $9, I'm pretty sure I would have caved as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the print of your dress! A shopping ban is too hard to follow haha I admire that you even tried!

Shopping bans are so hard! I am not supposed to be shopping since we just bought a house but I have to sneak things in every now and then! It's just too hard!

Shopping Ban is hard to do when you find great buys. Not to worry you kept your costs down and I would love to get an orange swimsuit like yours. Enjoy your Summer!
ReplyDeleteTo me, shopping bans are like diets. As soon as I tell myself I CAN'T shop (or eat something bad for me) that's the minute I want to the most. Anyway, I love the pretty print of that dress!
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming print. The dress is beautiful on you. Can't wait to see the Peter Som pieces.

I'm taking my shopping "ban" a week at a time this month and trying to be as realistic as possible with what I am requiring of myself.
ReplyDeleteI find shopping bans can go one of two ways... either you have the motivation to stick to it because there is an end reward in sight, or you get frustrated and shop as much, if not more, than ever. You are not alone :) But you are looking lovely as always in this pretty printed dress - such a great Urban Outfitters find! - and I love you hair styled this way. A good ponytail is hard to do.

Anyone who says that they didn't shop for an entire month is completely lying. I made like two $20 purchases during my shopping ban and felt awful but I realized it was self-imposed and I wanted the things. Second, you are so thrifty anyway that you deserved it!
ReplyDeleteI've tried my hand at shopping bans and didn't always succeed either. Unless I am saving up for something special, it can be difficult to resist a pretty new item when it crosses my path. I love your new sandals, and this pretty dress! Good luck with this months ban. I'm done shopping too until August so I'm with you! xo
ReplyDeleteThat dress looks amazing on you and I love the print! Great score in the ferragamo sandals too! I can't believe they were only nine dollars!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on the shopping ban. I was fairly successful last month with spending less so I want to keep it going. But it's so hard!
Here is my theory on shopping bans (at least for me) - If I say I am absolutely not shopping this month, then I am just setting myself up for failure because the fact that I "can't" means that then that is all I think about. What I have been doing is trying to be more mindful of my purchases. Eliminating the impulse purchases. Last weekend, I was at J. Crew and they had a couple of things I wanted, but I didn't buy them. I was still thinking about them a week later, so I went back and got them.
ReplyDeleteBut i think you did great with the few purchases you made (how could you resist $9 Ferragamos??)
And I love that dress!

I can not do shopping bans. I think it's just impossible! But you always find great deals so I think it's ok :-) And you have the best collection of dresses!

I ALWAYS shop more on a shopping ban than not. For several months, I've had no desire to shop at all even though I SHOULD since most of my clothes still don't fit me. Can't wait to see all of your goodies!
ReplyDeleteBut you know what Lydia, you caught some great sales. So don't feel bad. I absolutely love that dress. The draping and print look fabulous on you. I love your sandals.
ReplyDeleteWell at least everything you bought was worth it! I've been on a ban also and gave in this weekend when I found a yellow pencil skirt for $3. Oh and 3 basic tees from Old Navy. BUT I have this crazy rule, I don't know if I ever mentioned it here but I use velvet hangers, which are expensive. If I have more clothes than hangers, I have to donate something I haven't worn in a while. It's nut, but it works!
ReplyDeleteI would have never guessed that dress was from Urban Outfitters, it looks more Ann Taylor! It's stunning.
Oh Lydia, always able to find a TJ Maxx even in the middle of nowhere! I'm glad you did find some good sales. :)
ReplyDeleteThat dress provides such a different look for you but I love love love it! The draped neckline is especially lovely on you. And your pink nails are positively precious, for some "p" words. :)
I have tried shopping bans way too often for my sanity. I think it's safe to say that shopping addiction is RAMPANT in the fashion and style blogging community.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, your purchases were so inexpensive and therefore so totally justified!
That dress is gorgeous and so flattering too! (And I don't think I can fault you for $9 Ferragamos ;-))
ReplyDeleteThat feather print is so pretty! The cowl neck looks especially great with your hair up like that.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Sabrina

I would have bought the sandals too !!!
ReplyDeleteThey're fabulous and a true bargain :)
If you go back to Cocos remember I am looking for the black Chanel flats… :)
you know, just in case, in size 6 .
I really like your dress and sandals. I find shopping bans difficult too! The only thing that helps me is keeping a specific goal in mind that outweighs shopping in my mind, like a vacation.
ReplyDeleteThat's my style too! Pretty dress and I also love the cute white sandals, Lyddie!

This dress is gorgeous! From the print to the fit, you look amazing
ReplyDeleteSuper dress, I love the print and the draping. Very flattering. It's hard when there's a spending ban - I think my instant response to the word 'ban', is to go shopping!! I think it helps if there's something you can save towards instead - is there something you wouldn't normally spend money on that you can work towards? A spa weekend? A designer bag? I know a carrot is far more motivational to me than a stick... P x
ReplyDeleteTHE dress! You know I LOVE this one so very much. Simply adore it. And why deny your shopping lusts! It's who we are. haha
