As happy as I am to be gainfully employed once again, I still really want to keep focused on growing the blog. I want to see how far it can take me, and that is in part why I agreed to be on Extreme Cheapskates, for the exposure; however I never imagined the level of completely fabricated, scripted things I would end up doing. I also never thought about just how many times TLC re-airs their programming.
I don't check the listings or anything, I know when it airs because as soon as it does, I receive half a dozen Facebook friend requests from people (mostly men) that I don't know. I also get tweets - some are kind and positive, while others are quite mean. I don't want to be called sick, uncompassionate, disrespectful, disgusting, or morbid, even if it is in regards to something I don't actually do, even if it is from strangers who can't spell, hiding behind screennames on the internet. My Cheapskates appearance even earned me a few seconds of mockery on The Soup.
Honestly, was my acting really that good? Because I don't believe myself for a second.
Lately, what I want the most is a weekend without obligation. Where all my blogging is done, all my errands are run, the laundry is clean, and I can just be without worry of what is going to require my attention next. When I can spend an hour picking out a holiday card from Minted and not be using it as a procrastination device latent with guilt. And while I'm daydreaming about an impossible weekend, I would like to be able to spend it with Sean, the perpetual weekend worker, as well.
Thanks for listening to me ramble, hope you have the weekend you've been dreaming of, or at least a pretty good one.

Congrats on the new job. I wish I could blog full-time but it's not realistic for me and work just got more demanding so I have to focus most of my time there. I think you're doing a great job and it's unfortunate that folks that don't even know you have negative things to say. Haters will hate. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job, and didn't realize you were on that show! Never saw it before... will have to look for you. :)
ReplyDeleteAdore this look; I have that same blazer!

Oh yikes, I am sorry about the show bringing you this crap - like Aracely said haters will hate.
ReplyDeleteIt takes time to get really comfortable at a job, I know it took me a while when I started, specially if its something you have not done before :)
Enjoy your weekend.
Any publicity is good publicity, just dont listen to the haters lady! :)

Being on TV is a big deal. I'm sorry about all the negative attention. You do something quite amazing here Lydia! I love reading your blog and getting simple and chic outfit ideas. You really have a great thing going here. Most people don't keep up with their blogs for 6 years!
ReplyDeleteI totally get the wanting to relax thing. Laundry is actually calming for me so if we were closer I would come do your laundry.
Congrats on the new job! I love this work outfit. I definitely understand the desire for a free weekend. I think this weekend is looking like that for me since I woke up sick this morning. Maybe I'll catch your episode of Extreme Cheapskates - congrats on the exposure!

I didn't know you got a new job- congratulations! I'm sorry that life is feeling a bit overwhelming right now but I know you'll get back into the swing of things. I'm also sorry about the more negative comments about your TV appearance. I haven't seen it since I don't have a TV, but I hope in the end it was still a good experience for you. Hang in there Lydia and I hope you have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe pants are back! The print of those is always a breath of fresh air, he he.
ReplyDeleteAnd ugh, yes....people are poo heads, they're dumb for actually believing everything they see.
and yep, work + blog is always a struggle. Even though I'm home I find it hard to find time to go out and take my pictures because I never know when something urgent will come up.

I'm sorry to hear about the negative stuff happening from the show. It will pass, but it's still frustrating. On a happier note, love this outfit :)
ReplyDeleteAw I still feel bad for missing your debut, but I get what you mean. I'm really sorry that they portrayed you in an unfavorable light. That's reality TV for you! Don't worry--all of us who "knew" you before you were famous know better! And your supporters are what matter. Forget the haters! You're awesome, your blog is one of my faves (and ALWAYS has been) and I am sure you will do great things with it!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job btw!!
I can't believe people are such asses. Hold your head high and don't let them get you down!

Omg I love extreme cheapskates!! I did get the impression that it was a little scripted. One episode a lady fed her family cat food!! You look fab!

nice outfit!i like your pants

I just saw your episode of extreme cheapskates and you have nothing to worry about. Your true love of vintage fashion was apparent ! The gentleman you met with said it best - you are giving new life to clothing his mother cherished that he had no idea what to do with. You are honoring his mother's life. it was somewhat obvious that it was scripted but I think it will draw people to your blog. I've always enjoyed reading!
ReplyDeleteYou look great with this look

Glad to hear about the job, although I hope you get some relaxation soon! I hear you on busy weekends--I could use a responsibility-free weekend too!
ReplyDeleteThat is really too bad about the comments! Hopefully it dies down soon! Congrats on the new job, too! I love those pants and your bag!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your navy blazer! The fit is so gorgeous on you and balances the fun polka dots nicely.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,

P.S. Giveaway for a gift card to The Loft on my blog!
Oh I missed the part where you were on TV - congrats! That's so exciting, even if you did end up not liking out the parts you acted, it's still a fantastic achievement! We don't have that show here, but I'm sure you were fantastic in it. There will always be people who will try bring you down - no matter how you are portrayed, so try not to let it get to you :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you do manage to have a relaxing weekend - keep your chin up, you can do anything you set your mind to! :) You can always let the blog slip a bit while you settle in at work - that's to be expected!
Away From The Blue
Congrats on both TV and the new job, that is amazing!! Im sorry to hear about the negative comments as we know you rock!! Keep up the hard work and don't worry about the haters.

Love the outfit! Good luck in finding that balance. I know the feeling but you'll have it in no time!
ReplyDeleteI know just what you're going through. When you go back to work after an extended period of professional blogging - sometimes also called unemployment, ahem... - it is really hard to adjust to the hours. When I went back to the office last November, everything in my routine was thrown completely off kilter and it took me months to get back into a routine that worked. I'm not saying this to scare you, but because I wish that I had taken things easier on myself then. I pushed so hard to make myself continue everything I'd done for my blog while also working a full time and frankly, it just wasn't realistic to expect that from myself. I know that now. So basically what I'm trying to say is don't be too hard on yourself if you don't get there right away. It takes time and the transition will probably be a little rough.

PS: I haven't seen your Cheapskates episode yet but - yikes! People on the internet can be so awful.
Congrats on the new job dear, I now how hard it is to have a job and also try to do a blog. I work full time and I blog part time but I end up with almost no sleep and tired all the time:)

Congratulations on the new job! Try to focus on the positive and don't let the rest of the garbage bring your spirits down.
ReplyDeleteRed Reticule
I totally get it. I am having blogging fatigue myself today. It seems everyone else has time to shop and post about sales and holiday guides while I am struggling just to get a post up. It's hard not to feel like I can't keep up. I am sorry the show extras have been hard! You are amazing!

Congrats on the new job! I'm also having difficulty managing my blog and work...feels like there's not enough hours in the day for everything!
ReplyDeleteI now have to see that episode of the show! Even though there's some drawbacks, it's pretty cool that you were on TV :)
-Sharon
I haven't had a chance to catch the episode yet, but there's no way you came off as awful as some people are making you out to be. You're a smart, budget-conscious women. Screw the haters. :-) (Besides, I'm sure you're not one of the people doesn't use toilet paper. The hell?!)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, congrats on the new job! Blogs can be awfully time consuming when there's a job to balance, but you'll figure it out soon enough.

Congrats on your new job! The learning curve is always to be expected but I'm sure you'll catch on quickly! It's awesome you got a shot at being on a show fans will always show come at you good and bad. You've got to take it with a grain of salt :) I totally like you need a weekend free of obligations. Hope we both get it soon!

Oh, Lydia! I am so sorry about the stupid people and their stupid comments. Even though you were called out on The Soup, that's kind of a big deal. Thing about it, you're Kardashian level now. All kidding aside, keep doing what you're doing as you have many fans that appreciate what you do and we are here to support you. P.S. I really enjoyed your Cheapskates show and you came off as so sweet and lovable.
ReplyDeleteBalancing work and blogging is so hard and I really admire that you're trying to grow it. And I know the negativity is tough, but if anything it's a great exercise in growing a thick skin (which I've found to be super valuable in the professional world).
ReplyDeleteLove those loafers, btw.
Congrats on the new job. I was just talking about how tough it is to balance everything regardless if you blog or not. And sorry to hear about people with negative feedback. I hope you are able to brush it off and remember you are an awesome person and showed people how you can be stylish without spending a lot of $$.

Congratulations on the job! It's always a bit uneasy to get into the swing of things, and back to work mode. Well, I'm sure blogging will take you to brighter days, forget the negative people. Take a deep breath and think about all of the savings that you've made by shopping smartly! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Darkest Days
It is a constant battle for me to balance blogging and my teaching job...honestly I feel like I do nothing but work all the time. It really is a constant form of stress. I did watch the show and knew it was clearly fabricated. I can't believe you were on the soup!
ReplyDeletePeople are just plain mean! Good luck learning the new job and you will be fine with time! It will be great to see you continue to grow your blog too! I have so many ideas and just haven't done anything to refine the blog. In time...

Congrats on the new job, sweetie and everything will work out just fine...Take a big breath and you will see how much better you feel:) Btw: I'm totally smitten with your pants...love the pattern:) Happy Monday.
ReplyDeleteNever let anyone push you into doing something you're uncomfortable with Lydia. When I watched the show, I knew some things were NOT you. Simply because I've followed your blog for so long. However, what you portray follows you and that's what you have to be careful about. Love your outfit and so happy to hear about your new job. Other things will come. One step always leads to another.

Keep your head up! And keep posting fab looks...they really inspire creativity for many of us!
ReplyDeleteOk...I had to go watch your episode after you said this! First of all, you are so cute! I'm sorry that you are getting negative reactions from it. It looked like a cool experience and you shouldn't feel bad about doing it.
ReplyDeleteAnd as someone who works in hollywood you should know that there is no such thing as reality TV. EVERYTHING is scripted to a point. And I could tell in the show that there was a lot of acting going on.
I am curious though...do you actually do the funeral tracking thing? I didn't even know that existed!
P.S. Love your pants and those shoes!
