Shopping at 'off price' stores like TJMaxx often have last seasons goods at reduced prices, and when you can find something like a leather bag that is a basic, it will work for many years after it's season.
For statement pieces, shopping secondhand is the best way to go. I was so in love with this skirt when it was on Anthropologie's shelves in what...2010? When I saw it at ThredUP a few years ago I realized my love of the skirt had not waned in the slightest, so I swiftly added it to my cart. I haven't tired of it yet.
I do think I may have paid full price for the sandals, even though they were "discounted" at DSW, they were still DSW's full price. But I love these sandals, and promise that I will wear them into the ground, in fact they've already made a trip to the cobbler and sustained a couple DIY repairs.
It may be last (last, last, last) season, but I still feel quite on trend.

I should probably take a page from your shopping book - I don't shop much, but I almost always pay full price. I never regret it, really, but I think there are savings out there that I really don't take advantage of because I hate to wait for things I want. And pretty much everything in this outfit is lovely enough to be worth waiting for. This skirt was clearly meant to be yours, the colour and cut suit you perfectly. And it works so well with the crop top, which I would never have expected!

Meh! We are all guilty of that! I have yet to wear the oragami skort that I NEEDED a few years back . . . darn it. Thanks for the reminder to pull that baby out! I love this look and I am amazed at your page every time I visit! It is so crisp and clean in the layout!
ReplyDeleteThis look is still very on trend. I try not to pay full price for things but if I really love something I do pay full price. I see other people get really great things from TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

Well you've seen my shopping through the years... I pay full price 10% of the time.
ReplyDeleteI think we are too focused on being "on trend". I think you look great here and can see how happy you were to find that BR skirt, I've had that feeling ! Its like winning the lotto, like when I found a Missoni for Target sweater at the consignment store... it was meant to be ;)
Yesterday I attended a pre show runway for the upcoming MBFW here and was awed at what I saw... everyone was trying to be so "on trend" that the only person that stood out was a blond girl in vintage, oh and a guy with long hair and a long pleated skirt.
Ha and maybe me, as I overdressed :(
That is the perfect skirt for fall!
ReplyDeleteTHat skirt is beautiful! It's great when you can find the peices you had your eye on later, when they are reduced and you still want them! :)
ReplyDeleteI get lucky - I shop a lot of sales but I shop US or UK sites like shopbop or asos so the end of season sales are perfect for the upcoming season in Australia, haha! Otherwise I'd never be able to fit in 2 wears of things before the weather changes too much.

And you look so on trend.. Loving the crop top and floral skirt. One of the reasons I prefer more classic pieces is because I can hold on to them for years to come. I do love how some classics are getting nice updates! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteNice skirt!

I need to wait a lot more for things I want. For example, a skirt I loved at Urban Outfitters was $50 and I bought THREE of them... THREE. Over the period of a few months because I loved the fit of it so much and the colors it came in... but just the other day I checked it and it was $30. Some of the colors were missing, but I guess I need to be patient.
ReplyDeleteI totallllyy agree with you!! Almost everything I wear is off season and I have a really hard time getting rid of my clothes, so I still wear pieces that have been in my closet for YEARS. I love the skirt you snagged, its absolutely beautiful! And don't worry about taking so long to wear the crop top, that happens to me ALL the time. hahahaha ;)
ReplyDeleteHappens to me all the time! Glad you brought it out for this post though. And the skirt-- oh my, I just love that skirt!! So floral and fun. :)
