"I accept change as a positive force in life."
I embarked on this three month ban with Lorena with the intentions of getting through the unworn items in my closet, taking stock of what I have and reaffirming that I really do not need anything new.
I wouldn't call the ban a failure, but I don't feel like it was a success either, in that I have not yet taught myself how to quell the need to shop. I wasn't buying clothes, shoes, or accessories, but when I found myself devoting an afternoon to picking out a new dish rack on Amazon, I realized I am still far from having my shopping under control.
I'd like to see how long I can continue the ban for, though Lorena suggested the possibility of allocating a small budget for thrift shopping. I like that idea, but I know it's also a slippery slope, and I think any new purchases need to conform to a one-in one-out rule, that way I have to want something badly enough to let go of something else.

I still struggle with this too, Lydia. Shopping is so pleasurable for me and I love clothes!! I was trying not to buy anything for a month in January, but I wasn't perfect. I have gotten better though, so that's a start, right?

You did well and shopping bans are never easy! It does get easier over time though. I love gorgeous clothing and accessories, but crave fewer pieces. I shop for my home and daughter a bit more. But apartment living and trekking stuff all over the world has helped me curate a smaller collection which helps!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on completing your shopping ban! I understand where you're coming from when you say you don't feel it was a complete success, but - and I know this comes of sounding a bit like a platitude, but it's something I really believe - progress is progress. You may not have completely changed all of your habits related to shopping, but you've proven that you can start changing them, and that means you're on your way.

Sometimes my shopping bans happen naturally when everything I order just doesn't work out for weeks at time (this seems to happen a lot lately). Great idea to do a self-imposed one!
ReplyDeleteI really love this pastel motorcycle style jacket - what a fun spring piece!

Love how Springy this look is even though you're wearing a coat!
ReplyDeleteAnd I know what you mean, even though I haven't been buying clothes I sometimes find myself shopping for other things I don't need. Although that hasn't been happening with this particular shopping ban yet.

I try to conform to one in one out, but at times it can get out of hand. If you continue with your shopping ban, good luck! You still do such a great job of putting together amazingly chic outfits whether you are shopping or not!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you and Lorena had a successful three-month ban. I am far from not being a shopaholic also, but all this month I did not shop and I returned almost everything I purchased on February, too. That coat is gorgeous and matches your floral aqua blouse, nicely. =)
ReplyDeleteWelcome by and link up this and your latest style on my new Thursday Moda linkup this week. Thanks and enjoy the weekend!

I love this outfit on You. The mint green coat is too sweet. I am a strict budget shopper and believe in the "one in one out" rule, it really works. But I have to decided to stay away from trendy items. Enjoy every moment. . .
ReplyDeleteI think your partial success is a lot more than I would wind up with if I were to attempt to something similar...for what that's worth.

I think you did well, 3 months is pretty good for starters ! Don't be too harsh on yourself.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to the fact that you did not accomplish what you set out to do, which is wear the stuff that's NWT, for me it was the same: yes the Burberry skirt and the Red Valentino dresses remain unworn.
I'm going thrifting tomorrow but will totally do the 1 in, 1 out if I do find anything interesting... we'll see!
Congratulations! Three months without shopping for clothes is a feat for any of us who are clothes horses. Even though you feel like your shopping isn't completely under control, proving that you can go three months without adding new items to your wardrobe is a huge accomplishment!

3 months is a great job! I like the idea of 1 in, 1 out. It will help you edit to pieces you really love. I don't think I have the willpower, but let us know if you try it!

It's so hard not to shop! It's my default when I'm bored or stressed...
ReplyDeleteFirst up, love the top and coat together, what a lovely spring-like outfit! :)
ReplyDeleteSecond, congrats on your ban! Not shopping for 3 months is really impressive, you should be very proud! It was refreshing hearing that you're still not sure how you'll handle shopping now it's over, I'll be interested to see how the 1 in 1 out rule works for you. I've been thinking a lot about how I want to change my shopping once my 6 months is over but right now I have no idea what I'll need to put in place. I still like what's in my wardrobe but still want pretty new things so 1 in 1 out doesn't work when I've tried it in the past. Maybe I'll think differently in a few months :)
Hope you are having a good weekend :)
