I feel like getting dressed has been reduced to wearing the same two sweaters and pairs of jeans over and over again while hoping that no one will notice. But since it's the winter and I'm usually alone all day at work, there is no one there to notice. I have an ancient grey sweater, nubbly to start and now covered in so many pills it might be crossing over into shaggy. I've tried replacing it, like with the sweater I'm wearing here, and another grey one before it, but I can't get rid of that old sweater. I might not ever post it on the blog again, but there is something defeatist about wearing a tired old sweater when I've got a new one waiting in the wings. Maybe that is the problem, maybe I just need to get rid of the old things keeping me down. I could start with the sweater and then move on to the bigger things.

Winter is hard. At this point, I think I get dressed in something other than yoga pants approximately twice a week. New things keep finding there way into my closet, which just makes it all the more dismal, because there is no appropriate occasion to wear any of them. I know how you feel. But I'm not sure about getting rid of the old sweater. I have one myself, you see, which I admit is in reasonable condition, though it is starting to pill. I bought it in 2009 at H&M and it should have long ago bitten the dust, as everything I bought that winter, including an identical version of it in black, did. But it's still around, still a piece I go back to over and over because it's warm and comfortable and because, at this point, we've been together for a decade and there are few things, few people even, about whom I can say that. Sometimes those old things are worth hanging onto.

It's so cold here even I can barely stand it. I'm dreading going out today. I have a couple of things in my closet that I think are akin to the sweater you describe - I just hang onto them, year over year, and can't quite bring myself to part with them because I associated a certain level of comfort with them. And I think that's okay, personally, even though I know they've definitely seen better days at this point and I have plenty of other items that can stand in as replacements for them.

In love with your teddy bear coat! They are my fave!

It's the sentimental part of our clothing that makes it so hard to get rid of them. I never used to be like that, but lately have had the same issues. It's much easier when I get a friend to help---it's like they are the rational part of me that seems to have disappeared when I'm by myself!!

Winter is rough. I have a few sweaters that have seen better days, but I can't seem to get rid of them either. My problem is that I haven't bought enough to replace what I have--winter is just my least favorite season to shop for!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe your window frozen shut! I think we are all over winter and can't wait for the warmer weather to get here! I really like this coat though! I hope you have a great weekend!

Love the leopard print clutch with this, and it looks like such a cosy outfit! I'm the same, I'll hold onto older pieces and just wear them around the house. When I had the wardrobe detox session with the stylist a few years back it was so funny as she kept pulling things out and tutting and I'd say 'that's for walking the dog!' or 'that's for around the house!". In the end I got rid of a lot of it, it was definitely looking worse for wear. Nothing wrong with holding onto one or two comfortable pieces though! :)
ReplyDeleteHope the warmer weather arrives for you soon. I'm the opposite, as you know it's summer here and a heatwave and I'm looking longingly at the layered outfits everyone is showing on blogs with their cold weather. I even bought a knit the other day. Right before the heatwave, ha!
Hope you had a great weekend :) With the heatwave starting we had a quiet one.

I totally hear you on this. Trying to keep warm is a real fashion nightmare at times. I have a few sweaters that I know will keep me warm and that's what I reach for each morning. I do love your teddy bear coat and how cute (and warm) it is with the sweater! You look beautiful!

I do not miss winters in the NE! We definitely all get lazier about dressing up when we're just trying to stay warm! Your Clare V clutch gives such a great pop though!
ReplyDeleteI do love me some cashmere!! And that coat is so fun! I want a teddy coat too but am trying to resist since I always wear the same coat anyway, haha

Love this chic and cozy look! Much like your old sweater, I have a favorite hoodie that has seen better days, but it's so hard to let it go...
ReplyDeleteThat sweater goes perfectly with the cozy teddy coat!

Cute and comfy sweater you got there dear, really perfect for the OTK booties too. Now that's one way to look stylish during chilling cold days of winter!

Get rid of the sweater !
ReplyDeleteLately I have been going though lounge wear and realised that my at home wear was shabby and I kept it because it was "comfortable" even though the pants we black (now grey) and almost see through! But I held on....
My eyes went straight to the fuzzy and warm mules. LOVE THEM! And I'm with you. I'm over winter, lol!
