San Antonio Shoemakers provided me with shoes for the purpose of this post, but as always, my views and opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands who support Chic on the Cheap.
Part of me knew when I could lovingly refer to a pair of shoes as vicious, there was a problem.
When I was younger, never would I dream of suffering in uncomfortable shoes, and as such, my go-to footwear was black suede rubber soled clog. I had them in red too, when I was feeling fancy. But I got older, became more fashion conscious, started this blog, and the clogs swiftly got replaced by cuter, trendier footwear. Band-aids or anti-chafing balm applied in anticipation of blisters, ball of foot pads or other inserts to help soften the footbed, all feeling like poor, stop-gap solutions to what could just be simple - better designed shoes.
Over the last few years I've been advocating finding more shoes that are offered in different widths. The idea that we should settle for most shoes only being offered in one width feels akin to bras only being offered in one cup size - it makes no sense.
So I keep an eye out for shoe brands who dare to consider comfort and the idea that not all feet are the same width. When I got an email from SAS, touting their shoes as the cute solution to comfortable shoes, I had to head straight to their website.
I was pleased to find numerous designs that would check both those boxes (to be fair, they do have a pair of clogs that bare a striking resemblance to the aforementioned clogs of my younger years, but there are plenty of adorable shoes to balance things out). I especially love their made in Italy line of shoes, my favorites include a flat round toe slingback, a simple bootie, and the shoes I'm wearing here. Moxie is a pointy toe kitten heel with that vintage silhouette I've been seeing a lot of. Even the name evokes the idea of some old fashioned chutzpah.
Depending on the shoes, SAS's sizing offerings encompass sizes 5-12 and widths AA-WW. They are made from premium leather that will bend and move with the foot, and have padded footbeds (ahhh so comfortable). A leather sole with a rubber insert insures a good grip on the ground.
With SAS shoes, I can get from place to place in comfort with shoes that actually fit my feet. It's time to rid my closet of the 'vicious' shoes and invest in shoes I can just enjoy wearing. My feet are worth it.

Thanks to years of ballet and gymnastics, which at best involved me running around in bare feet on concrete floors (and at worst involved shoes that contorted my feet into unfathomable positions), I am really only comfortable barefoot now. It's been that way for years and I've accepted that my feet will always hurt, even in sneakers, so I embrace cute shoes despite how impractical they so often are. I actually find flats to be the worst offenders in terms of comfort, it's so rare to find a pair that I can possibly break in withour suffering blisters for weeks or months. I do wish I could find shoes that would let me have both, and I must say, SAS sounds like they'd be worth a try. While width isn't an issue for me personally, I totally agree with what you said about brands not offering shoe widths - it just doesn't make sense!

I will definitely have to check out that brand. I have basically given up on heels entirely over the past couple of years because of comfort issues and it is sort of a bummer. I'd love to find a few cute pieces that were actually comfortable enough to make it through the day in. Also, on a side note, I love this rich green shade on you - it looks really great.

I have slightly wide feet and it's hard for me to find comfortable shoes at times. How wonderful more and more companies are making shoes with different widths! These are beautiful!

Not only are those shoes practical and comfortable, they are also so pretty and modern. Love them styled here with the gorgeous deep hunter green dress. Adding the cheetah clutch was a great idea. Such a great Valentine Date night look!
ReplyDeleteWelcome by Thursdays to join my style linkup. As usual, I love your style. =)
I adore those heels! What a gorgeous color. I tend to go for kitten heels as I'm tall and most heels kill my feet. I love how these are fashionable and comfortable! You look gorgeous by the way!Great backdrop.

Those shoes are so stylish. I am all for comfy shoes. I have gotten rid of a ton because having uncomfortable shoes I end up not wearing them no matter how cute they are. Love this outfit and the darker dress!

My grandmother use to always tell me, "It is painful to be beautiful." But it always nice to find something that is cute and comfortable!

I saw that last picture on IG and loved it ! You look marvellous Lydia !
ReplyDeleteThere was a shop that sold SAS here, I buy my grandma's shoes there, they are the only ones she can stand. They are a bit pricey but totally worth it. Now they have closed.
I love the pair you are wearing, I did not see anything similar in their shop here-
I'm kind of the opposite--I used to wear high heels and uncomfortable shoes in my younger days, but now I pretty much stick to flats, wedges and low heels. I can't stand being in uncomfortable shoes! I LOVE a brand that offers both comfort and style, and I think you found a winner in that pair!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a sassy look! Love the elegant dress underneath the edgy leather jacket. Your shoes by the way, are gorgeous dear!
