Out for the Summer

It was no easy feat, but I finally managed to dig out my bin of summer clothes from storage.
Honestly, I hate the practice of trying to switch out my wardrobe. Stripping all my winter clothes from their hangers to replace them with summer clothes, only to be swapping them back again in October just feels so futile.

It didn't used to be like this, once all my clothes occupied space in the closet year round. But my penchant for new pieces culminated with my modestly sized closet and the fact that I reside in a climate where seasonal weather shifts can be over 100°, resulted in the introduction of the rubbermaid bin.

As much as I abhor the bin, it does produce one benefit - when forced to unpack clothes I haven't laid eyes on in months, I find I'm either anxious to wear them, or ambivalent if they come out of the bin at all. For my little white dresses, I'm excited.

  1. I know many people who switch their clothes out for the season and, in fact, many who think I'm crazy not to - but I always like to have my clothes where I can see them, so even when I've had smaller closets, I've preferred to double (or triple) hang my clothes rather than put them away. I have a feeling that, because I'm not sentimental, once I put clothes in a bin, I probably wouldn't care if I saw most of them ever again. That said, this dress absolutely deserved to be unpacked, it's so wonderfully summery and looks like it was meant to be paired with espadrilles.

  2. Ugh, yes...sorting through seasonal clothes is such a hassle. I would love to be the type of person who fits everything in one closet, but I don't see that happening as long as I have a blog! At any rate, your white dress is perfect for summer so it's a good thing you dug it out of the rubbermaid bin!

  3. I hate the process of getting clothes out, but it is usually kind of fun rediscovering favorites. Such a cute dress!

  4. all my clothes fit in my closet I only have a few pieces in the a bin under my bed, like a coat and a few jackets since I hardly use them and I don't want them to collect too much dust. That little dress is so pretty, love this Summer look.

  5. It must be sort of fun to get to rediscover a new seasonal wardrobe annually - and I definitely see your point about how it can prompt you to make some closet edits. I'd always be forgetting what I had in the bins and accidentally buying similar pieces, I guess an inventory could solve that.

  6. After having our second daughter my husband and I had to switch closets around so now I am rotating out my shoes, some tops, and my dresses with another closet. You are right that it is a good way to determine what you really want to wear or not!

  7. I wonder if I lived in a climate that required it, if I would switch closets just like that, because I always think I can somehow layer and get more wear out of things...
This is such a pretty dress and it totally screams summer, how many white dresses do you own ?

  8. This is such a great classic summer look. I do the same because of closet space. I do use that time to get rid of items I didn't wear or don't want to wear and check for stains, holes etc to toss out.

  9. I try so hard to keep all of my clothes in one closet....it's just so much easier and less time consuming. I used to practice that one in and one out rule. But somehow I've gotten out of the habit, and it's crazy. Therefore, I switch some things now, but it has a good point too---like you said!!
White dresses are so perfect for the summer. I love them even more than LBDs!!

  10. That is such a cute little white dress! It gets pretty warm here in summer so no matter how perfectly I pack my winter clothes away they come out all wrinkled and it's having to iron them all over again that helps me decide if I REALLY want to keep the pieces or not, ha! I managed to get it down from two big boxes of clothes to one this year so I'm feeling quite accomplished - hopefully I don't buy any more winter pieces to add to that though, ha!

Hope that you're having a wonderful weekend :)

  12. I adore the subtle embossed detail on the dress - how pretty! I live in one climate now so it's at least easy to get dressed but I do need to still cull my wardrobe a lot!

  13. This LWD looks sweet with a cute panama hat, wooden clutch and espadrille sandals. I made a post on my favorite espadrilles to try this 2018, you can check it right now, over here: http://standoutlook.com/best-espadrilles-to-try-next-summer-2018/ Hope you like this post too, or maybe you will find some inspiring shots!

  14. You really can't go wrong with going all-white on summer; such a neat and elegant style. Also, love your bag and sandals dear, great rusti contrast.
