Delicate pieces that once belonged to my Grandma became my new go-tos, and I realized the value of owning a timeless piece of jewelry made from materials meant to stand the test of time and not just until the next trend.
It will be a slow process, but a beautiful one, of acquiring jewelry I want to invest in, and once again, I must make mention of AUrate - priced without jaw dropping markups and made from high quality 14 and 18 karat gold, AUrate allows my desire to own 'forever jewelry' to become a little more attainable. The pieces are handcrafted in New York with only ethically sourced materials, and come with an amazing lifetime guarantee - that includes breaks, re-plating of vermeil pieces, and polishing scratches.
Statement necklaces may become trendy again, but I doubt I will regret the ones I've since donated to the thrift store, new designs will have replaced them. Delicate gold pieces, however, will always be in style. No matter how old, they are simply classic. This pearl necklace would have been a piece my Grandma could have worn just as easily as I wear it now. Granted, she probably wouldn't have layered it with another chain, but that is just a little way to take a timeless piece and style it on trend. Now I just need to get a nifty necklace layering clasp like this one to keep the chains from twisting together as I let my gold layers shine.

I love that you wear pieces that were once your grandmothers! That is so special and sweet! xoxo sarah
ReplyDeleteI have a few pieces from my grandmother that I've also been layering lately - I love having some accessories that have a history to them.

It's such a pretty piece, I love it in the gold! And so true about how trendy pieces come in and out but simple pieces are always in style

Like you, I also switched out statement necklaces for dainty pieces. I think I might own only 1 or 2 statement baubles now. I love AUrate when it comes to all jewelry. Great pieces that give back as well.

I like your dress and the dainty pieces look so nice layered together like that! :) It's been a while since I've layered necklaces, the delicate pieces together can quickly get tangled when little toddler hands are around, haha! But I'm sure I'll come back to it when it's warmer :)
ReplyDeleteHope that your week is going well :)

So dainty and pretty! I love layering necklaces to give them a totally different look and feel!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Lydia.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I've let go of some of my chunky pieces like the Bubble necklace from J. Crew however some are still around.
What I have been attempting to do is wear my real gold and silver jewelry more as I realized they were not getting any wear. Over 10 years ago I use to work in a free trade zone where gold and silver where sold by ounce and was able to score real gold pieces for under 100.00 usd so you can imagine.
While I'm not sure I was ever quite a statement necklace fiend, I definitely owned more statement necklaces than a single person ever truly needs - and I loved them while I loved them, but as soon as I didn't love them, they all fell by the way side. Some I sold or gave away, others are languishing in the purgatory of my jewelry drawer, unworn and forlorn. The pieces I come back to over and over? Always classics. A gold chain with a single pearl or a delicate gold hoop earring. Lately, I've fallen for Mejuri, a Canadian brand with an ethos similar to AURate. Fine jewelry is always worth the investment, but it's even better at a reasonable price.

Not only do I love those necklaces (and your simple pretty earrings) but this dress! I need it!
ReplyDeleteI love how from even far away the pearl in that necklace still "pops"! It really shows you don't need something overly large - just something perfect and elegant.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love these sweet, dainty pieces!
