Fall Colors in New Haven
Wednesday, October 30, 2019
Even though the reds and oranges of fall pale in comparison to the bright pinks of spring (I know not everyone feels that way), they are beautiful in their own way, and feel like a last hurrah - going out in a brilliant blaze before the world turns brown.
During the spring my most important mission is to seek out as many flowering trees as possible, track when each will be at their peak, and pray the weather cooperates so I can capture my photos with their splendid beauty in the background. In the fall, I drop the ball. I forget about the changing leaves, and before I realize, the branches are bare and the opportunity has past.
While my initial desire was to take photos along side one of the buildings of Yale, the orange leaves on the Green beckoned me, and added color to this black and white look.

In a City Night
Monday, October 28, 2019
Last weekend I attended an event hosted by the New England Blogger Babes, and it was the first time I got to go to a blogging event with my sister Anna, now that she has officially launched her blog, In a City Night! It's still a work in progress, but in a way, I suppose all our blogs are. We always love to tweak, change, and improve them; after helping her get set up I was starting to feel like things have gotten a bit dusty around here!
It's certainly been great to have someone to shoot with, and I hope we can plan even more adventurous shoots in the future. She wants travel to be a big part of her blog, so naturally I'd more than happy to join her, where ever that may lead.
I hope you will visit her blog and say hi, and don't be surprised if a lot of her clothes look familiar ;)

I was about to throw on my red Ferragamos when my sister informed me that I was veering far too patriotic for anything post Labor Day. True, I could have taken a different approach to styling the navy sweatshirt, but I felt like I'd been waiting all summer for the humidity to die down enough that I could finally wear it, and I wasn't about to bend on the white denim.
As much as I want the weather to bend to my sartorial whims, it's often a suffering I choose for myself, when I wear suede sandals in a downpour, cropped pants and flats with no socks while temps hover around freezing, or skinny jeans on a blazing hot summer day.
Fortunately when I arrived in the small town center of Niantic, CT I found that I coordinated just perfectly with their autumnal displays.

Vintage Finds
Wednesday, October 23, 2019
I love a good vintage piece, in fact, when I notice a vintage style coming back again I will often go to great lengths to track down an original; a small way of proving to myself that I'm an individual, even while blatantly partaking in a trend. In this world of blogging when everything I'm wearing is supposed to be immediately shoppable, I am frequently a failure.
While I am so guilty of seeing something on another blogger and immediately clicking 'add to cart', it is often when they have a vintage piece that I find myself coveting it even more. I want to feel like my style is still personal in this ever increasingly homogenized world, even during the moments when I bend to the trends, like the presence of these new Hermés inspired sandals and olive green midi skirt, I'm styling them with a very old camel sweater I thrifted for $7, and this new-to-me vintage bag I bought at Anna Pearl's Curiosities last week.
Neither the sweater nor the bag have brands; they can't be linked to, but they can still inspire, and wasn't that what this was supposed to be about? Inspiration, instead of exact copies?

Style and Support

For many years I had a fraught relationship with heels, buying shoes I thought looked cute, only to be faced with the harsh reality of trying to navigate the world in a wobbly stiletto that was too narrow for my foot, despite all my DIY attempts to stretch them.
Thankfully there has been a shift, comfort brands like Vionic are working hard to bridge the gap between the shoes we visualize when we hear the word 'orthotic' and the fashion forward shoes we might have chosen to suffer a little to wear.
This open heel bootie is from Vionic's new fall collection, featuring a fabulous tortoise block heel, hovering at just about 3" - a perfect blend of height, support, and style. The shoes are offered in wide widths, though I will mention that Vionic's medium width shoes do seem to run a touch wider than average.
Sometimes my shoes need to take me a little farther than door to car, and I'm happy that brands like Vionic exist, filling my closet with heels I can walk confidently in.

Styling the Sweater Blazer
Wednesday, October 16, 2019
This is not a new piece to J.Crew's offerings, this sweater blazer has been around for quite a few seasons now, and has been offered in a number of different colors and even has a Factory version. I'd been coveting it since at least last fall, and since I've been shopping with reckless abandon lately, picking it up at 40% off seemed like a good idea.
It's got the casual throw on vibes of a cardigan, with just that little bit of extra structure and polish of a blazer. Everything the blazer loving person in me loves without the notions that I should be heading to the office. Let's not think about the white blazer I bought in June and haven't worn yet, this is the kind of piece you could wear around the house when you need that extra bit of cozy, but still look pulled together enough to head out into the world. A bit like what I'd hoped my grey cashmere cardigan would be, even though I always felt like it was missing the mark.
I probably should have posted this on Monday when the blazer was still on sale, but these days it seems like every weekend J.Crew is having some sort of promotion, so keep an eye out and snatch it up next time it's discounted. Also consider sizing down, I went with the extra small here.
