Yesterday we turned the clocks back, and while I'm supposed to be grateful for that 'extra' hour, I never quite feel like I'm gaining anything. Earlier sunsets are a part of life during fall and winter here, I can't stop the turn of the earth, nor move to Australia six months of the year, yet each year on the first weekend of November, it feels like a cruel joke to watch the sun setting before five p.m.
I wore this outfit to a blogger dinner I attended a couple weeks ago. In stark contrast to the dinner I went to over the summer, when even after the event was over, it felt as if there was all the time in the world to take photos; these were snapped hastily, racing against the impending darkness, and of course rain.
The meal at First and Last Tavern in Plainville was quite good, a range of Italian offerings with the standout dish in my mind being the eggplant parmigiana. I may have had more than one helping, and taken some home too!
Even knowing the restaurant was a casual affair, as I tried on different combinations of jeans and tops, I decided I needed to take advantage of the fact that it was still reasonably warm out and give this rust knit dress another wear. The time for enjoying the fall outfits of magazines and pinterest is coming to an end; how many bare leg and leather jacket days could be left this year?

There truly is something about this season that makes me feel like I am constantly racing the clock - and maybe it is the early sunset. I admit that I feel very rested this morning thanks to the extra hours of sleep, but also that I think I watched our opportunities to take outfit photos end for the season. We planned for one last set yesterday, when it would have been a little dark but still reasonable enough, only to have rain start... and rain turn into snow. Between the decreasing daylight and my efforts to attempt to get ahead of bad weather, it all feels like a rush, and I'm envious of anyone who lives anywhere where fall lasts just a bit longer, even if the daylight doesn't.

I loved this outfit, such a perfect fall look. And I haven't been going anywhere exciting so my perfect Fall outfits have not been getting worn...Oh well, there's always next year.

what a gorgeous dress, as an early riser, I love the time change. I also tend to go to bed early so that works for me too.
ReplyDeleteI am with you, I too make my wardrobe decision based on the weather. No matter what the dress code :D

You've really got to cram in as many wears of lighter weight things and dresses with bare legs as we you can before winter truly arrives. And it sounds like a really wonderful meal as well - I'm hoping to be back in that area next year to visit some people so I'll have to keep that restaurant in mind.

That is a beautiful dress and I really like the colour combo of the rust with the brown jacket! the printed shoes are a fun touch too :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't do daylight savings but it would be nice to have the sun set a little later some days - i take all my photos in the mornings before I leave the house as that's the best time for sunlight, even in winter. It can be too dark when I get home from work at night in winter!
Hope that your week is off to a great start! :)

It makes my heart hurt how so many people are affected negatively by the autumn and winter seasons - especially because they're my favorite. I realize that earlier sunsets and less light can be quite depressing in some aspects, but I suppose I thrive in the cooler weather and I'm alright with sunlight in smaller doses. However, you did a fantastic job bringing a little "sunshine" of sorts to the blogosphere with this super cute outfit. You look sophisticated, with a touch of sexy brought out by that jacket. I love this ensemble on you!
ReplyDeleteLove the color of this dress! And the coin necklace and leopard heels are the perfect accessories!

I totally agree that the first week is difficult and it definitely makes the evenings come so much sooner, but once I get used to it, I like cozy-ing in at home especially once it's time to build a fire!!
