Draped in Velvet

I'm not always on top of things when it comes to shooting holiday content in a timely manner, aka, before the actual holiday; I usually drop the ball when it comes to taking photos on the actual holiday as well. However, approximately one month later is when I can get it together and share what I wore for Christmas Eve.

I'm sure you know I've got a bit of an affinity for Banana Republic and may have over done it when it came to purchasing holiday styles; I first bought the velvet cami in navy, but then decided I also wanted it in taupe, only to conclude that it would just be foolish to not have the matching midi skirt as well.

As Christmas Eves go, having 30+ family members gathered in a space where the oven has undoubtedly been on all day, means that sleeveless tops, bare legs, and open shoes are easy to get away with, even if I have to be extra bundled up outside. I did have a cardigan, but I barely needed it all night.

Thankfully my delays in photographing this outfit worked in my favor, as we had that warm weekend, and I was not freezing to death shooting this outside. Perhaps we can forget this was meant to be Christmas outfit and instead repurpose it for early Valentine's Day? You can even still pick up the top and the skirt in a gorgeous deep red at a delightful 60% off.

  1. Such a pretty color! And my house is the same on a holiday, always very warm!
Definitely a great idea for a vday activity too, if only I actually did stuff on Valentine's Day, ha ha!

  5. What a beautiful set! Almost looks like a dress, the perfect outfit for a fancy Christmas eve and yes it would work for a Valentine's day date too! :)

I am always behind with posting pics of what I wore, I'm getting a bit more caught up now after my knee injury forced me to stay home more than expected over the Christmas break and so I didn't get dressed much and stayed in PJs a lot, haha! I did just post photos of before Christmas on Monday though, ha!

Hope that you are having a great week :)

  8. You look beautiful! I love velvet, and this color is just stunning. I'm the same way with shooting holiday content before the actual holiday. And not just for Christmas either, I'm awful with planning content for any holiday! I would rather just live in the moment and wait until the actual day to photograph my outfit :) That way it's real!

  9. Good gracious, that is one beautiful dress! I love the kinda gray/purple tones and it's super flattering. Plus it could be so fun to layer with as well, as I'm sure you've learned! You look phenomenal!

  10. I love that you were able to get away with a sleeveless top and bare legs at Christmas - that sounds like a dream to me! We did experience warm weather for Winnipeg, I admit, but that just mean I wore a slightly lighter sweater than I otherwise might have ;) I admit that I rarely darken the door of a Banana Republic, although we do have one here now. I always find their clothes look so much lovelier on you than they actually do when I see them in their windows!

  11. Admittedly, I don't own a single piece of velvet clothing, but your dress is so pretty! It's a fabric I need to warm up to...just have to step outside of my comfort zone! xoxo, Sarah
