I'd been looking forward to going out to celebrate with my friends on the Saturday evening before, followed the big family gathering on Sunday, with all our traditional Easter dishes, especially the cream pie and ricotta pie, plus my birthday cake...
But of course that didn't happen. My friends called to wish me happy birthday, one left a gift on my doorstep. The family got together via Zoom, and with seven little children vying to be the center of attention, it was a chaotic virtual gathering, to say the least. No Easter pies were baked, since it would just be us eating them, no huge meal cooked; we just had my birthday cake, and per my request blonde lasagna.
I got dressed for the first time in while, and I stayed dressed all day long! I don't think that has happened in quite sometime, but it felt good. The day started off beautifully, sunny and warm - I didn't even need to add a cardigan until later in the afternoon (well, pretty much when we took these photos). Practicing social distancing while taking outfit photos does tend to add an extra challenge, even though I routinely wait until people pass so they aren't in the background, suddenly it felt like getting six feet away from everyone who passed by was difficult without going into the street or dodging into an alleyway. But pandemic or otherwise, on my birthday, when cherry blossoms are blooming, and it's not raining, so help me I'm going to take outfit photos.
Overall, it was a pretty good birthday, my sister and I drank a bottle of wine, I made meringue frosting for my cake and then toasted it with a blow torch, gifts were received, candles blown out, and I got to feel grateful for all that I have.

Oh my dear Lydia, happy birthday !
ReplyDeleteThings these days are certainly not was we would have planned for them but we do have to be grateful for what we have.
You look lovely is this pretty printed skirt.
A hug from a distance.
So perfect that the blossoms came out for your birthday! I'm glad you were able to make the most of the isolation and still made it a fun day!

What a stunning maxi skirt! i'm glad you got the cake and to get dressed up for your birthday even if you didn't get to spend it with family. We celebrated a birthday on Easter Sunday too and it was a little sad but it was nice to connect with family and friends over the internet! My sister's birthday is coming up soon and she will really be feeling the distance - although she does have her housemate I think she will miss being around us, she was a bit sad yesterday when we were talking about it.
ReplyDeleteHope that your week is going well :)

I'm glad you had a good birthday - and that you got to spend some time outside with the beautiful cherry blossoms, they really make for a stunning backdrop for photos.

WOAH! I had no idea Easter wouldn't land on your birthday again for that long. That is crazy! Anyway, back to the outfit. I LOVE you in a good blue and white print, it's so classic and YOU!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous birthday outfit! That skirt is stunning! I love blue and white, and I love a good maxi so I'm basically very envious of this entire look.
ReplyDeleteI know it wasn't quite the birthday you hoped for, but I do think it sounds like it was great. Your pie looked amazing on Instagram :) And wine is always the best way to celebrate!
Based on what I saw on Instagram, it looked like you really did make the best of your birthday despite the limitations that our current situation imposes, and I applaud you for it. (It's kind of crazy that you'll never have an Easter birthday again, so I do hope your celebration included chocolate eggs, too :)) Wishing you all the best for the coming year. Here's hoping we all get some semblance of normalcy back soon, which will be cause for a different kind of celebration :)
